It's a great privilege to conduct the first official diplomatic visit to Somaliland, at the invitation of President @Abdirahmanirro.
The visit is also a message: We are determined to vigorously advance relations between Israel and Somaliland.
Today, we held substantive discussions with the President and senior members of his government on the full range of our relations.
The mutual recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries are not directed against anyone. Our shared objective is to promote the mutual benefit of both nations and countries.
In Hargeisa, I made it clear:
Only Israel will decide whom it recognizes and with whom it maintains diplomatic relations.
The President of Somaliland informed me that he has accepted @IsraeliPM Netanyahu’s invitation and will pay an official visit to Israel.

Today, at the Presidential Palace, I received
@gidonsaar H.E. Mr. Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, and a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Somaliland, the first such visit by a foreign minister in 34 years after recognition. I conveyed my deep appreciation to the Government of Israel for its historic and courageous decision of 26 December 2025 to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland. This milestone reflects a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared interests, aimed at cooperation and stability without prejudice to any party.

I emphasized that this recognition opens a new chapter of formal diplomatic relations, security, economic, and development cooperation, serving the mutual interests of both nations and contributing positively to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

I also reaffirmed that Somaliland is a reliable and responsible partner, strategically positioned and committed to advancing regional and international peace, security, and constructive engagement.

When the Somali regime, led by Siad Barre, committed a massacre against the people of Somaliland, the world was silent. But Israel was not silent.

In 1990, Israel’s then-ambassador to the UN, Yohanan Bein, sent a letter to the UN Security Council warning about the massacre committed by Somalia in the city of Hargeisa. Even when it was inconvenient and diplomatically costly, Israel chose what was right.
That is what moral leadership looks like.

I announced today the official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.

Together with Foreign Minister Sa'ar and the President of the Republic of Somaliland, we signed a joint and mutual declaration.

This declaration is in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Trump.

I congratulated the President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah, and praised his leadership and commitment to promoting stability and peace. I invited the President to pay an official visit to Israel.

The President thanked me for this historic declaration and expressed appreciation for my achievements in fighting terrorism and advancing regional peace.

Turkey has NO say on Somaliland. Somalilanders alone decide their destiny. Turkey stands against Africa’s freedom of choice while preaching democracy it does not practice. In Turkey, whole districts like Dolapdere and Eyüp Cemetery are no-go zones controlled by criminals. In Somaliland the safest nation in Africa. No dangerous zones, only dangerous for Islamist jihadists, Muslim Brotherhood terrorists, and antisemites.

Since 1960, Turkey has suffered 6 coups with 1,950 dead. In Somaliland Zero coups. Zero deaths. Only democracy and women’s rights rule. One in three marriages in #Turkey involves a child bride. 26% of Turkish women were forced into marriage under 18. In Somaliland child marriage is banned.

So why is Turkey, instead of learning from Somaliland’s democracy, lobbying Washington to block recognition of Africa’s only true democratic state? Why is Turkey sending weapons and soldiers against a free nation?
History has one answer: Any battle against Somaliland will end in defeat. Somaliland already crushed Al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood, and every terrorist force sent its way.
