@vfsglobalcare I’m trying to book an appointment in New York for a Malta short-stay (Schengen / Type C) visa, but the website is only showing Long-stay (Type D) options. Can you please advise how to book a short-stay appointment or share the correct link/process?
A common mistake of many first-time CTOs or VP of Engineerings:
Mandating that all engineering teams in their organization start working {the same way using methodology X}.
They usually feel this is a big win for them, and the company. In reality: it's almost always a disaster.
After the first hundred lines or so of code are working -- stop!
Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle.
Aggressively refactor. Get it right before you start rapidly adding thousands of lines. You'll be glad you did.
Get the seed right, then let the crystal grow.
Congratulations @imVkohli on a stunning run as the Indian captain. You can be very proud of what you have achieved so far, and for sure, your name will be up there among the best leaders in world cricket 👏
Making the core feature of your product faster, stable, and simpler will often matter more to users than most net-new features they might use. I am always surprised by how far you can go and how much it still matters.
For the record, at Uber, we're moving many of our microservices to what @copyconstruct calls macroservices (wells-sized services).
Exactly b/c testing and maintaining thousands of microservices is not only hard - it can cause more trouble long-term than it solves the short-term.
I was at Amzn in 2000 when the internet bubble popped. Capital markets dried up & we were burning $1B/yr. Our biggest expense was datacenter -> expensive Sun servers. We spent a year ripping out Sun & replacing with HP/Linux, which formed the foundation for AWS. The backstory:
Literally the first question I ask people when they start complaining about software ownership related dysfunction. Always.
"Are your software engineers on call for their code yet?"
Skin in the game. It changes everything.
Unpopular opinion: Microservices are slower to build and more expensive to operationalize than most enterprises anticipate when they venture down that path, and there's no guarantee they'll improve your cycle time when measured on a user-visible feature basis.
