@Kirby0Louise The underlying arch cannot be 2020 if no Lovelace part shipped until 2022.
A78C removes Big.Little, increases L3 available per cluster to up to 8MB vs 4, and there are significant performance changes to NEON to support that so it’s more than what you suggest.
It’s old arch only saved by high clocks. Every Zen 2 product barring Epyc will crawl compared to A78/Ampere+Lovelace at Switch 2’s clocks.
And SteamDeck sacrifices battery life SIGNIFICANTLY per volt added.
Facts are facts.
The Steam Deck uses a Zen 2 APU. The SAME exact technology, that the PS5 & Xbox Series X/S uses! Not only that, but it's on the same level an an AMD RX 5700XT, in terms of raw graphical power.
Not only that, but the deck can be manually overclocked in the settings.
@hrudyplayz Shader model matters, not FLOPS. No GTX 1660 is doing ANY form of RT, which is why it’s a GTX and not an RTX which didn’t start until 20 series.
Switch 2 has Lovelace SM layout, so I totally disagree with downplaying it to a non-RT part.
For one, Switch 2 is a hybrid of both Ampere/Lovelace, so it’s more like an RTX40 lite, and Switch 2 has significantly less bandwidth requirements to do what it does vs those older systems for rasterization.
It’s an extremely efficient SOC that exceeds what folks predicted.
How does the Switch 2 have "more power", when it's based off a RTX20 series chipset, and only runs off of 12GB's or RAM, as opposed to the 16+ GB's of RAM that the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC uses?
Even the Steam Deck operates off of 16GB's of RAM, with a quad core APU.
Again, #FakeTechHeads will move the goalposts away from any direct point you make because they aren’t here to learn or accept new information, and always work backwards from a conclusion of “Nintendo has to be wrong”.
Sad shit.
Dude is still here trying to justify the hidden costs of a Switch 2, and he's been at it for 4 days already.
Bro, give it a rest. You're not going to sit here & justify 256GB of memory being acceptable, for a dedicated gaming system in 2026.
@Kirby0Louise Switch 2 is CUSTOM and was taped out in 2021, with the exact SRAM layout as Lovelace, hinting at an RTX 40 lite design moreso so than base Ampere. A78C exists because of Switch 2 R&D in 2019.
That means custom, newer shader logic and CPU intrinsics tailored only for Nintendo.
Nate The Hate let the cat out of the bag. So I’ll just throw what I know behind it too: a General Nintendo Direct is happening next week Tuesday.
That’s what I have been told. Nate the Hate has not given a day, he just said next week.
The first general direct since September
@nicolbolas00 Nvidia doesn’t make CPUs, but they do contract with ARM to make them for enterprise that do exactly what you suggest (Grace, Vera, and Rosa), competing with, and exceeding AMD EPYC and Xeon.
Switch 2 is also memory-bandwidth bound, just like any other TDP-limited device.
@hrudyplayz You have to install all of it- that’s the entire point of it being mandatory, and doubly so on PS5 as the game uses the SSD essentially as a scratchpad.
And again, you can’t seem to not put Nintendo in this- requiring installs is solely a PlayStation/Xbox thing.
I directly asked you to do this very thing in another tweet- you NEVER REPLIED.
So I’ll ask you again: directly critique PlayStation without mentioning Xbox or Nintendo.
I’ll wait.🥃
You moron. Just because i criticize Nintendo, doesn't mean i don't give the same amount of work, towards Sony, Microsoft, or Valve. Just because other companies do anti-consumer things, doesn't absolve Nintendo from the same criticism.
You're just a Nintendo fanboy. Admit it.
Some but not all (as a SteamDeck owner).
I’ve gone from games crashing or simply not loading at all or having slideshow fps.
Not everyone is like me and doesn’t want experimentation with every executable launch, so looking outside of my BUBBLE I see why folks prefer consoles.🫠
FYI, if you don't own a Steam Deck, you can't truly understand the definition of "Verified". It just means the game was officially tested by the devs & rated by Steam, to run excellent on the system.
It's a formality & not a pre-requisite. Non verified games also run good on it.
No it’s because despite everyone else, Nintendo can actually compete and still sell the moment a GTA game launches.
The data supports this. Nobody is GTA-proof like Nintendo is. Two whole 8th gen consoles launched with no games to avoid GTA V.
It's because Nintendo need holiday games, they have nothing 3rd party anyway, and the ones they have are ducking GTAVI. 🤣
Also, there's a good chance all Nintendo Switch 2 first party sales combined since launch will sell less than GTAVI month 1. 🤣
@hrudyplayz WERE pretty rare- not any more. PS5 games more and more are becoming disc key cards, but that’s beside the point.
The irony is the distinct lack of care that even if the data was on disc, YOU STILL HAD TO INSTALL IT.
This is how #FakeTechHeads respond when you tell them you own the same shit they do so they can’t speak from Authority since their experience isn’t exclusive.
Console fanboy? Aren’t you the same person that rebooted when asked to directly critique ONLY PlayStation?🤔
Console fanboys have a weird sense of self-importance.
They're actually proud of being wrong & will showcase that, by spreading anecdotal evidence, rather than actual facts. All of this, just to make the Switch 2 look good.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has almost been out for a year and here are my thoughts:
1. Mine has not been bricked which I was assured it would be
2. My joy con don’t drift which I was assured they would
3. My screen doesn’t have ghosting which I was assured it would
4. It’s great
Switch 2 has 1/4 to 1/3 the usable capacity of a PS5 Slim/launch respectively, and the games are 20-40GB bigger than Switch 2 on that platform, and EVERY GAME must be installed on that platform unlike Nintendo first party.
It’s not the massive difference you’re trying to assert.
@RomeizR It’s only a terrible argument because you don’t like it.
Most games are well below the threshold and will be purchased because they are cheap, and development cost on Sony’s end is a skill issue most buyers won’t care about- they just know 9 games will fill up the NVMe QUICK.🫡
The median file size is 25 GB tho.
You didn’t give any weird qualifiers for what the median age is, so keep that same energy for file size.
Can you be logically consistent or no?🙃
Dude, unless you ONLY play Nintendo/pixel indie games, the average size of games is eclipsing 50+ GB's!
Stop being an emotional weirdo & understand the brass tax of things. Storage is important to gaming in this modern age. This isn't a narrative. This is facts.
@hrudyplayz Them being similar was never the ask, tho. and it isn’t a defense for him if I’m directly asking that for a reason.
PlayStation has been requiring installs since 2013 whether it’s on the disc or not. Yet people had no problem blaming Nintendo alone for key cards.
@hrudyplayz With extreme addictions like 2K/Rebirth, sure (45GB after install).
Without, it’s about 25GB with the biggest game being just under 60GB on disk.
The mode definitely is around 15GB and most folks will never need to expand the UFS storage.
