🌙⚙️ You click one button on Midnight. Six things happen.

Most chains: you sign, you send, everyone sees.

On @MidnightNtwrk, one contract call is a small pipeline running mostly on your own machine. Midnight.js splits it into six parts:

1. Private state: your secrets and signing keys stay on your device.
2. Public data: on-chain state is read from the indexer.
3. ZK config: the prover and verifier keys from your compiled contract.
4. Proof server: turns your private inputs into a zero knowledge proof.
5. Wallet: balances the transaction and pays the fee in DUST.
6. Submit: sends the finished transaction to the network.

The network only gets the proof and the values you chose to make public. Your private data never leaves your machine.

One honest detail: the proof server does see your private inputs while it builds the proof. That's why you run it locally or on a machine you control. It holds no keys and cannot sign or spend anything.

Why it matters: privacy on Midnight isn't a switch somewhere in the cloud. It's built into how every single click works.

My take: once you see the pipeline, "private smart contract" stops sounding like magic. It's just good engineering.
