Yesterday’s fatal incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute between a local drug dealer and a buyer who had taken drugs on credit. Sources say the altercation turned violent when the dealer demanded payment just days after the transaction. The cost of the drug in question was said to be MVR 500.

Witnesses claim tensions had been brewing between the two for some time, and the situation escalated rapidly when the buyer failed to repay the debt. What began as a verbal argument allegedly ended in deadly violence.

This is yet another death tied to the spiraling drug crisis that continues to plague our communities. This tragedy adds to growing concerns about the rise in drug related violence in the Maldives.

A public figure (the victim), has come forward about Rukuma Ali Abdul Kareem @RukumaAli sexually molesting her from the age of 6. She says the abuse continued for years and went unreported due to family pressure. He now runs a music school for children, where he allegedly takes kids into private cabins for “extra training”.

The victim says she tried legal routes with no success and is willing to cooperate with any investigation.

She does not seek personal justice cause she knows she won’t get any but wants parents to be aware.

This is the reality for youth in this country today. This is what @MMuizzu leadership has led to young people forced out onto the streets, openly selling drugs. There’s no proper support system, no jobs, no housing. So they turn to what’s most accessible: drugs.

And what’s the government focused on? Vapes. Banning vapes. While @LubnaZahir is out here making headlines for absolutely nothing of substance.
