We’re excited to welcome Devon Ellis to Shadowscape as our new Senior Offensive Security Engineer.

Devon joins us from MITRE, where he spent years supporting advanced security capability development, adversary emulation, detection engineering, and ATT&CK Enterprise Evaluations.

His 10+ year background includes red and purple team operations, custom adversary development, Splunk and SIGMA detection engineering, cloud security, DevSecOps automation, and application security research focused on improving real defensive outcomes — not just generating findings.

He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Cybersecurity at Northwest Nazarene University, helping prepare the next generation of cyber defenders through hands-on technical instruction.

As Shadowscape continues expanding our intelligence-driven offensive security and threat-informed defense capabilities, Devon adds exactly the kind of deep technical expertise and analytical mindset we seek to collaborate with to better serve our customers.

His background includes:

The final member to join the 1st Defense team is our newest team member Brian Kendall as a senior CMMC Assessment Specialist! Brian joined us this month and has already proven himself to be an exceptionally valuable member of the team!

Brian is a CMMC Certified Assessor (CCA) and retired USAF Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO), with over 18 years of experience in IT, and over 10 years of experience in compliance. He has participated in numerous CMMC assessments, and managed NIST SP 800-53 System Security Packages for DoD networks.

Brian's experience is backed by a master's degree in Cybersecurity and Leadership (MCL) and continued dedication to professional development. His number one priority to help Defense Industrial Base partners meet their compliance needs.

Mark has served with extreme dedication at Shadowscape and will continue that with an even more focused mission and message. To tirelessly support the Defense Industrial Base and it's ecosystem through Cyber Maturity Model Certification readiness, training and assessment.

Mark is a Lead CMMC Certified Assessor (CCA) and Provisional Instructor with over 25 years of experience across IT, cybersecurity, and compliance. He has participated in more than 35 CMMC Level 2 assessments and has trained over 40 CCP and CCA professionals.

As President of 1st Defense CMMC, Mark brings real-world assessment experience into building a trusted team of CCAs and CCPs delivering CMMC readiness, advisory, assessments, and training. His focus is helping defense contractors, C3PAOs, and cybersecurity professionals succeed across the CMMC ecosystem.

Prior to 1st Defense, Mark held leadership roles at IBM and Microsoft, where he led cybersecurity teams supporting commercial and federal government missions.
