Please consider attending this vigil held by the Point Breeze Community in honor of Vira Petrakh, who was struck and killed by a driver on October 23rd.
It will take place tomorrow, Saturday, October 26th, at 10:00am. on the corner of Reynolds and Dallas.
“This technology will allow us to crack down on dangerous driving that all too often results in serious and fatal crashes,” said Councilwoman Erika Strassburger.

This legislation will:
✅ Automate enforcement at high-risk intersection
✅ Defer unsafe and illegal driving behaviors
✅ Protect pedestrians, bicyclists, and other drivers
Today, Councilperson Strassburger introduced legislation that will reauthorize the use of Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) in the City of @Pittsburgh. This will make our City the fifth municipality in the Commonwealth to participate in this life-saving program.
Car-centric planning/traffic engineering has given us intersections where it's possible to fly thru at high speeds to beat or run a red light. Treatments like narrowed lanes, island medians, curb extensions, and reduced intersection size can all disincentivize red light running.
We are thrilled to see @PGHDistrict8 introduce authorization of Automated Red Light Enforcement in PGH. Drivers running red lights is a danger to EVERYONE using the road, esp. people outside of vehicles. We must promote safe behavior without using armed enforcement! #VisionZero
Enforcement can never be a replacement for good engineering, plain and simple.
This legislation will allow us to implement the changes our dangerous signalized intersections need to make Red Light Enforcement unnecessary.
Sorry to hear this Sophie, and hope you heal quickly.
We urge the city to re-evaluate the Shadyside Connector project; several of the proposed designs we advocated for would make Ellsworth safer for everyone, especially the most vulnerable road users.

It's time to address an issue: Parking on the sidewalk impedes the safe and convenient passage of people who walk and roll, particularly those with mobility challenges, families who use strollers, joggers, dog walkers, and other vulnerable road users.

Get excited for ☀️ Shadyside Summer Sundays ☀️
Walnut is one of those streets where it just makes sense to open it up to people and close it to cars. @Shadyside_CS@ThinkShadyside says you can expect music, shopping, food, workouts, and more on July 26 + Aug 20.
Spring is coming🌷Do you have a bike/ped/transit event you'd like to share with the BikePGH community?

We are sad to share that Emily Hoffman, the woman hit by a driver at the intersection of Wilkins and Beechwood on Feb 9th, has died. A memorial fund has been set up in her honor, please consider contributing: https://t.co/j1hRss2yRL
🎉 We do what we do thanks to 𝕐𝕆𝕌! We'd like to give a huge thank you to everyone who attended the Annual Members Meeting today at @EECM_Pittsburgh, and congrats to our award recipients!
I sat down with @PGHtransit’s Katharine Kelleman this afternoon. I’m going to fight in Washington to bring home every resource I can to keep improving our transportation infrastructure.
Spread the word!🛑The stop signs have been reinstalled at the traffic circles along the Reynolds St Neighborway, please use extra caution as everyone adjusts to the new traffic patterns-- Esp for peds & cyclists, as some drivers are running straight through the signs.
Discussion of the Stanton Ave complete street installation at the Stanton Heights Nghbd Assoc mtg: Many are angry at the lack of notice. One was so enraged, she told us cyclists deserve to be hit. Be safe out there, everyone!!!
