Me Gusta🔥🥵
One of my only concerns with the acquisition of Ja Morant has actually nothing to do with the congestion in the backcourt but rather the future role for Deni Avdija.
A finalist for the Most Improved award, an All-Star and receiving numerous All-NBA votes, Deni had the best season of his career and a big portion of that came from the role he was given.
Avdija operated majority of the season as the de facto point guard for the Blazers with the ball in his hand at all times. 28.5 usage rate puts him in the Top 30 in the NBA.
With Dame’s return it was understandable that there would be slightly less usage for Deni, which is probably the right move considering how much of a workload he endured last season.
However with a new backcourt of Morant and Lillard, it makes Deni’s role a little more cloudy. Though he is still, in my opinion, the best player on this Blazers squad, it would be hard to get the best out of Morant and Lillard without them having a lot of touches.
It would be hard to tell your breakout star that he will be having the ball in his hands less, but at the end of the day there is only one basketball on the court.
Thank goodness I am not the head coach so this isn’t my headache, but it will be very interesting to see how the touches are split amongst Deni and the backcourt.
