The only difference between Atiku’s “enriching his friends” and Tinubu’s is that one would make life significantly easier for ordinary Nigerians, while the other will make sure you go through hell.

With or without subsidy, friends of the President will make money.

The @officialEFCC under Ola Olukoyede is inherently evil.

I sat through two separate court sittings today in which two individuals, including Maryam Isa Shehu, a female student of Bayero University Kano (BUK), were arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (@officialEFCC) for allegedly “cyberbullying” the agency.

In each case, the defendants had already spent close to 30 days in detention before they were brought before the court. Yet, instead of being allowed to return home while their cases proceed, they were both remanded in prison custody, Maryam was sent to Suleja Prison, while the other defendant was sent to Kuje Prison, where they are expected to remain until August 31.

What makes Maryam’s situation even more disturbing is that she is a final-year university student who is due to begin her final examinations this Saturday.

None of that appeared to matter.

An anti-corruption agency should be fighting corruption, not turning itself into an institution for hunting down, detaining and prosecuting citizens over criticism or alleged “cyberbullying.”

What kind of institution detains a university student for nearly a month, arraigns her for allegedly cyberbullying the agency, and then seeks to keep her behind bars while her final examinations are about to begin?

Abuja’s Master Plan Was Not Designed for Shortcuts

There was a time when Abuja was deliberately protected from disorder. Under Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s stewardship as FCT Minister, the Master Plan was treated as a binding framework, not a flexible suggestion. Green areas were defended. Land use was enforced. Illegal structures were removed. The result was a capital that retained order, dignity, and long-term functionality.

That culture of discipline is now under serious pressure.

Approvals for construction on areas previously marked as unsuitable for development send a dangerous signal. Once the principle of controlled planning is weakened, the consequences do not appear overnight. They emerge years later in flooding, congestion, collapsed infrastructure, and the quiet suffering of ordinary residents who had no hand in the decisions that created the problem.

The case of the Kugbo Bus Terminal is instructive. A facility inaugurated with fanfare was significantly damaged by a rainstorm in less than a year of its existence. When infrastructure fails so quickly, the question is no longer about natural weather alone. It becomes a question of standards, supervision, and the difference between rushing for quantity and insisting on quality.

Abuja was never meant to be a city of temporary structures and reactive demolitions. It was designed as a planned capital. The Master Plan existed to protect the city from the very disorder now creeping back into its spaces. When that plan is treated casually, innocent citizens eventually pay the price ; through loss of property, environmental damage, and the gradual erosion of the city’s character.

Cities are not built by announcements. They are sustained by consistency, technical discipline, and the courage to say no when short-term interests demand otherwise. Quality will always outlast quantity. And history will remember which approach truly served Abuja.

Twins. Two Dreams. One Opportunity

If you met them in a hallway, chances are, you’d look twice.

Hussaini and Hassan Malami are identical twins. One wears glasses. The other is slightly taller. But looking closer, I noticed something else. Hussaini is the quieter one. Hassan happily does most of the talking.

Members of the NNPC Tigers Class of 2026, their story challenges a persistent misconception about NNPC’s recruitment process.

Joining NNPC had always been Hussaini’s dream. When applications opened, he applied immediately and urged his twin to do the same.

Hassan wasn’t interested. He held back, wrongly assuming that NNPC only hired one person per family and did not want to ruin his brother’s lifelong dream.

His dream was the Nigerian Air Force and service to Nigeria. He already had a job in banking and didn’t see himself in corporate life. Besides, three older siblings, including a lawyer, an engineer and a business administrator, had all applied unsuccessfully to NNPC over the years. Their father is a retiree, but if there had ever been an "in", their siblings’ experience proved otherwise. Hassan wasn’t expecting a different outcome and only applied after his brother’s persistent encouragement, nearing the deadline.

They took a computer-based test on the same day in different cities. Hussaini in Sokoto and Hassan in Kaduna. Like every other successful candidate, after a rigorous process that included interviews, they received employment letters on the same day.

“I opened the email after midnight and wanted to wake everybody up to tell them,” Hussaini laughed.

Hassan first saw the news on the family WhatsApp group when he woke up. That’s when the pressure hit him.

“I was now nervous about the possibility of not being successful once Hussaini shared his news.”

They both got in.

Hussaini is currently with NNPC Exploration & Production Limited (NNPC E&P Limited), while Hassan works at NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), where he has discovered an entirely new side of Nigeria’s energy industry.

“I didn’t know there was a whole business dedicated to transporting gas,” Hassan said. “Now I’ve seen how gas powers plants and manufacturing companies...Hearing that gas is the future is one thing. Seeing how it is happening is another.”

Ironically, the brother who never wanted a corporate career now sees his job at NNPC as a form of national service. He still hopes to explore military service before he reaches the age limit in 2030, but today he is exactly where he wants to be.

For Hussaini, the experience has strengthened a lifelong dream. He also hopes to give back to his university as a guest lecturer.

“When I was in university, I only had one lecturer with field experience,” he said. “I want to share practical experience with students someday.”

Asked which NNPC culture transformation pillar best reflects their mindset, Hussaini says Enterprise First, because “giving your best to the company is giving your best to the country.”

Hassan tilts towards Execution Excellence. “I’m a civil engineer...I like seeing things come to life from concept to completion.”

Any advice to young Nigerians trying to get into NNPC? They echoed the same message:

“Ignore the rumours. You don’t need to know anybody at NNPC. Apply. Take the test and earn your place.”

At first, one notices what makes them identical. Dig a little deeper and discover what makes them different. Likewise, sometimes the stories we assume we know deserve a second look.

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has on Wednesday, confirmed that Atiku Abubakar, the 2027 Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, put together and led the best Economic Team as Vice President of Nigeria, till date.

The WTO DG spoke at the presentation of a book, titled: "The Pain and The Promise", by Paul C. Nwabuikwu, who served as her Media Adviser, during the President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku Abubakar administration.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala who attended the event as the Guest of Honour, stated during her address that she left her position at the World Bank, to assume a Ministerial position in Nigeria, after she was approached and informed of the economic plans Vice President Atiku was trying to achieve for Nigeria, by putting together a formidable Economic Team.

She noted also that Paul was one of the best parts of the Economic Team of excellence put together by Vice President Atiku.

The WTO DG hailed the success of the transformational Reforms programme spearheaded by Atiku, while crediting Paul for his great contribution in the masterful steering of communication that led to parts of the success.

Agreeing with some excerpts from the book, she acknowledged the hard work done by the Atiku-led Economic Team; specifically mentioning debt relief, public financial management, transparency, infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, institution building and structure reform.

While noting the hard work of the Economic Team, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala stated that she is proud and appreciative that she was part of that Team.

Speaking further, she stated that the Team's work was not just about implementing Reforms, saying: "It was also about embodying a different type of government; a more accessible and accountable government, focused on results."

Agreeing with the exact posture the Atiku-led Economic Team wanted to convey to the world at the time, she quoted a part of the book, saying: "Having observed them at close quarters, it is tempting to believe that members of the Economic Team were chosen, not only because they had what it takes to play leading roles in the Economic Reform process, but also because they share a strong collective conviction that government needs to demystified; that governance needs to be focused on what matters, results. Their motto seemed to be, let us roll up our sleeves and get the work done with as little farce as possible."

She went further to speak on the reform of the Banking consolidation, agreeing that Banking consolidation restored confidence in the safety of peoples deposits.

Elsewhere, she stated that until Nigerians can overcome the ethnic, religious and regional divides embedded in our society, to forge a social compact that agrees on key directions for the nation, directions shall remain steady, no matter who is in government.

She concluded: "I think Nigeria will find it difficult to move forward, at the pace required to create enduring prosperity for our people."

Recall, that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was Minister of Finance from 2003 to 2006, then got sacked by President Obasanjo, for going against his controversial Third Term Agenda. He later appointed her as Minister of Foreign Affairs, where she served for just 63 days, before returning back to the World Bank.

No father with grown daughters, or even a brother with many sisters, or any woman who hopes to marry one day, would find it acceptable or reasonable to hear a fatwa suggesting that a woman can be entered into a temporary marriage while the man knows from the outset that he intends to leave after a fixed period, even as she genuinely believes she is entering a lifelong union with the man she loves.

Such an arrangement is the height of deception and injustice; qualities that Islam does not endorse. Marriage in Islam is founded on honesty, trust, commitment, & mutual rights and responsibilities, not concealment or exploitation.

If a man can afford to travel abroad for business, then he can also afford to take his wife with him. If circumstances prevent her from traveling; perhaps because she must remain home to care for their children, and he genuinely believes he needs companionship during extended trips, then he has lawful alternatives within Islam, such as marrying a second wife openly and permanently, with all the rights and responsibilities that such a marriage entails.

Islam is a religion of justice, fairness, and dignity for both men and women. Any interpretation or practice that undermines these principles deserves careful scrutiny.

Press Statement: The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is deeply alarmed by reports that today, officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) forcefully denied Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai access to medical care, arrested his personal physician and physically assaulted his wife.

Information reaching us is that El-Rufai was billed for treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja today. But against the hospital's advice that he would require hospitalisation in view of his failing health, officials of the ICPC insisted on returning him into custody. Protests by his personal physician and his wife led to scuffles during which his wife was assaulted and the doctor subsequently arrested.

The actions of the ICPC and the Tinubu government have for months now gone beyond the realm of law enforcement.

Their actions have become an assault on the Constitution of 200 million Nigerians, on human dignity, and on the most basic principles of justice and human rights.

The world should know today that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is holding a political prisoner in Nigeria by the name of Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai.

No democratic government that claims to respect the rule of law should deny a detainee access to medical care or prevent close family members from seeing him in flagrant disobedience of the courts, which granted him unfettered access to his lawyers, physician and family members.

Such conduct belongs to authoritarian regimes that use state institutions to break political opponents rather than to uphold justice.

This is no longer about Mallam El-Rufai alone. It is about whether Nigeria remains a constitutional democracy or has descended into a republic where law enforcement agencies have become instruments of political persecution.

As we have said since this treatment of Mallam El-Rufai began: “Today it is El-Rufai. Tomorrow it could be any Nigerian whose only offence is to disagree with those who wield power.”

The ICPC owes Nigerians immediate explanations. On whose authority was access to his family denied? Why has access to his doctor been refused despite concerns about his health? What legal basis exists for these actions? Why were El-Rufai’s wife and doctor assaulted by the ICPC operatives?

President Tinubu cannot continue to hide behind anti-corruption agencies while pretending that these actions are independent of his administration.

Under our Constitution, the buck stops with the President. Every day that Mallam El-Rufai remains in custody under these circumstances is another day that Bola Tinubu keeps criminalising political opposition instead of confronting the grave crises of insecurity, unemployment, inflation, and hunger confronting millions of Nigerians.

The ADC therefore demands the following:

1. Immediate and unrestricted access for Mallam El-Rufai to his wife, children, legal team, and personal medical practitioners.

2. An urgent review of the punitive and disproportionate bail conditions imposed on Mallam El-Rufai, with a view to ensuring that they conform with the Constitution and the fundamental principle that bail is intended to secure attendance at trial, not to inflict punishment before conviction.

3. An immediate end to the harsh, degrading and unnecessarily restrictive conditions under which he is being held and supervised, and his release from what has become a regime of political persecution masquerading as lawful process.

4. Full compliance with all constitutional guarantees and internationally recognised standards governing the treatment of persons in custody.

5. Complete transparency from the ICPC regarding the legal and factual basis for every restriction imposed on him.

6. An immediate end to the use of state institutions as instruments of political intimidation, vendetta and selective justice.

The Story of Ya'juj & Ma'juj (Gog and Magog)

Long ago, Allah gave a righteous king named Dhul-Qarnayn great power and authority. During his travels, he reached a people who begged him for help against two destructive tribes: Ya'juj and Ma'juj.

Instead of accepting payment, Dhul-Qarnayn asked them to work alongside him. Together, they built a massive barrier of iron and molten copper between two mountains. By Allah's permission, Ya'juj and Ma'juj could neither climb over it nor break through it.

But Dhul-Qarnayn reminded the people:

"This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will level it to the ground." (Qur'an 18:98)

The barrier is not meant to last forever.

Near the end of time, after Isa ibn Maryam (Jesus) defeats the false messiah (the Dajjal), Allah will allow Ya'juj and Ma'juj to break through. They will spread across the earth in overwhelming numbers, causing corruption and destruction wherever they go.

Isa (peace be upon him) and the believers will seek refuge and make sincere du'a. Allah will then destroy Ya'juj and Ma'juj by sending a tiny worm into their necks, causing them all to die at once. Afterward, Allah will send birds to carry away their bodies and rain to cleanse the earth.

This story reminds us that no matter how powerful evil appears, Allah's promise is always true. Every trial has an end, and ultimate victory belongs to those who trust Him.
