🚨 U.S. National High School Record 🚨
At the AIA State Track & Field Championships in Mesa, Arizona, Gilbert senior Vance Nilsson ran 34.83 to set the national high school record in the 300-meter hurdles. He is the first U.S. prep athlete ever to run under 35 seconds in the event. @azc_preps
In the mud bowl, @ShafterFootball’s magical season ends with a 20-7 lose to Orland in the State title game. Great season men, you’ve left your mark on a long storied history. @KernHighNetwork @AsbShafter
Those who made it world class:
-Had more multisport than specialized practice
-Started their main sport later
-Accumulated less practice
-Initially progressed slower than national class peers
@DevonSundgren gets to wear the Shafter blue & gold one last time tomorrow at Haward Field in the Emerging Elite 200m. @NickGodbehere competes in the shot put @ 9am and the discus @3!
Central boys 4x400 needed to finish at least second place to win state. Jeremiah Walker runs a gutsy anchor leg and passes Long Beach Wilson in final 100m to give @CenGrizzlytrack the state team championship.
With the state meet finished, we should recognize both Devon and Nick are two of the best to ever compete for Shafter High track & field. Both dealt with adversity, and still accomplished a lot. More importantly, they are both exceptional young men. They have represented well.
