This Jewish Londoner’s family has lived in England for hundreds of years.
Now, he is the last one to leave for Israel.
Why? He’s sick of getting threatened in the street.
A society that has given up on protecting Jews is not a healthy society.
In the first half of the 20th century, Baghdad was one of the most Jewish cities in the world. It was over 25% Jewish.
The Farhud, a Nazi-inspired pogrom of 1941, was the beginning of the end for the 2500+ year old community there.
There are no Jews left in Iraq now. The vast majorly fled to Israel with nothing and built flourishing lives.
Remember this when you are told Israelis are “white colonisers” who must “go back to where they came from”.
It will never not shock me when "humanitarians" care more about some victims of conflict than others.
Israelis are running from missiles. Diaspora Jews are sweeping up broken storefront glass. The silence has never been louder.
Empathy is NOT a finite resource.
And we all bleed the same.
To all my Jewish friends, I want you to know you aren’t alone. There are those of us who will support you loudly and unashamedly. I can’t even begin to imagine what you’re facing. But I’ll stand shoulder to shoulder with you…now and always. Shabbat Shalom my friends 🕯️🕯️
The remarkable thing about this is how widespread it is. It happens on campus, online, at work, at dinner parties and potluck dinners and school drop-off and school pick-up and on and on. All of these unhappy interactions amount to the same surreality, the same lie: We have no problem with Jews, just Zionists.
If one protests, if one says, This is the same distinction that Jews have been asked to make over the many centuries -- we have no problem with your Jewishness, just this core part of it -- one is inevitably met with the unthinking, "Genocide!" There's no point in getting into that debate, because it is now religion among so-called progressives. One has to embrace the belief that the Jews are guilty of the worst of all possible crimes, and if you do not believe it, if you do not declare your support vociferously and unequivocally, you'll be excommunicated from polite society. Ghettoized.
The contemporary "left" is simply reenacting the hatreds, the myopias, the violence, of all the antisemites who came before. It imagines itself, arrogantly, ignorantly, transcending the past. It is, in fact, a slave to it.
Something is deeply shocking me, some people who call themselves “human rights activists” speak endlessly about Palestinian rights, yet won’t utter a single word about Hamas’s brutality against Palestinians. Not just silence, they actively cover for it.
Spare us the hypocrisy.
What does it mean that people film themselves yelling abuse at an elderly woman they see on a street at nighttime? It means they’re proud, feel self-righteous and expect approbation. It means something has gone horribly wrong in society.
This was in the Post yesterday following its story about the Israeli Embassy’s possible move:
“What we are witnessing is something darker and more dangerous: an eliminationist worldview that treats Israel as a unique and irredeemable source of evil whose eradication is a moral necessity and by extension, stigmatises "Zionists".
It applies a hyperfocus on Israel found nowhere else, which is how New Zealand ends up with a political party dedicated to a foreign state's demise rather than any domestic issue. This ideology borrows from the same conspiracy theories historically directed at Jews, and is impervious to reason or evidence.
Conditioning Jewish participation in public life upon renunciation of Israel's existence is not political critique. It is prejudice, no different in structure from telling Jews throughout history that they could earn safety by abandoning their identity, such as through conversion to Christianity. Even if some may choose to do so, it is still prejudice.”
A pro-Palestine protest in Montreal is now drawing outrage after footage appeared to show an effigy of a visibly Jewish person wearing a kippah hanging from a rope.
There is a massive difference between opposing Israel’s government and using imagery that appears to depict Jews being hanged.
This is exactly why so many Jewish people feel like “anti-Zionism” is being used as a shield for things that would be instantly condemned if directed at anyone else.
Le groupe pro-Hamas Mtl4Palestine affiche le drapeau des Canadiens à côté de ce qui semble être une effigie d’un Juif portant une kippa, pendu avec une corde.
“Hitler should have finished you off.”
The head of a Jewish football club testified at the May 7 antisemitism Royal Commission hearing about the repeated abuse his players received, including an attempt to snatch a kippa, and the calling of parents and players “Jewish dogs.”
This coffee shop in Kyiv opened yesterday, then got hit by a russian air strike just hours later.
Today, they're still open and people in Kyiv are lining up to buy a coffee to support them, stepping over debris and broken glass on the way in.
FYI, the coffee is excellent 🇺🇦
So we are now supposed to feel bad for men who sell little girls to other men because they’re hungry? I don’t care how hungry you are! Nothing justifies this. Nothing.
That BBC report from Afghanistan is messing with my head still. They really portrayed a caveman selling his daughters into sex slavery as a victim.
I can't get over it.
It makes my blood boil.
Only the Ayatollah @BBC could turn a horror story about Afghan fathers selling their little daughters into sex slavery…and make the MEN the victims.
Not one question about why there’s a ready market for child brides and sex slaves in the first place. Too “Islamophobic,” apparently.
Because everyone knows the truth they’re too cowardly to say out loud: Islamic doctrine and culture make this possible. Child marriage is permitted, girls are treated as property, and desperate fathers know they can traffic their own daughters with religious cover.
Real men, decent fathers, would rather die than sell their little girls.
If Western feminists still had an ounce of integrity, they would be burning down the streets over this documentary. But silence is easier when the perpetrators check the “oppressed minority” box and you are too much of a coward to call out Muslims.
If Israel forced an internet blackout in Gaza for even a day, there would be riots and condemnations worldwide.
But 80+ days of zero internet in Iran doesn't bother anyone at all. Some of us haven't heard from our loved ones for months and nobody cares.
Iran truly stands alone.
Terrifying. Imagine any other group, be it for political views, religion, nationality, sexuality etc etc. Imagine if she said every member of that group must be put in an internment camp.
Absolutely disturbing.
Yes. We do know where this leads.
