There’s a reason the Congress Working Committee in 1937 chose the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram for national gatherings, with leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, Tagore and Patel involved in the broader discussion.

Nobody was trying to erase the remaining verses. People were free to sing them.
