JFK gave best speech of his life, this week 1963, at American University:
“If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. . . .We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal."
Sanders: You know why Trump has a nucleus of support? People say, “I go out and I vote every two years. You tell me to vote every four years. So what? I’m going nowhere. Democracy is not working. You know what I need? I need a strong guy. I don’t give a damn about the Constitution, the rule of law. Give me some guy who’s going to crack some heads.”
It’s not just in this country. You’re seeing this all over the world.
So what we have got to do is make democracy work for working people. If tomorrow, God willing, we passed a Medicare for All single-payer system so everybody in this country could get quality health care, people would say, “Huh, you know what? Democracy, that ain’t a bad idea.”
“I just took my kid to the doctor. We had an operation. It didn’t cost me. That’s pretty good. And you know what? My kid is going to college now, a really good school, and it’s tuition-free. I like democracy.”
So democracy is more than just having elections every two or four years. It is delivering for the people. And the problem that we’re having right now is that because the oligarchs increasingly control our democracy, democracy can’t deliver.
Peace begins in the human heart, passes through relationships, takes root in neighborhoods and peripheries, and expands until it embraces the entire city and the world. Peace is built by promoting a culture that rejects violence, through daily gestures, education, and practical acts of justice. #PastoralVisit #Naples
In a world wounded by arrogance, people hunger and thirst for justice. We must encourage those who believe in peace and dare to engage in “countercurrent” politics, which focus on the common good. What is urgently needed is the courage of new visions and an educational pact that gives young people space and trust. #ApostolicJourney #EquatorialGuinea https://t.co/81zzJos7Ij
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
In 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited New York City on his way home from accepting the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway. Speaking to a packed crowd at City Hall, Dr. King said,
"Those who have sat so long in darkness now find themselves lighting the way for others... They will hold this torch high without faltering because they have weathered the battering storms of persecution and withstood the temptation to retreat to a more quiet and serene life.”
These words continue to inspire and guide us, on MLK day and every day that follows.
Thank you to the Department of Public Records for these pictures.
Yellow cab driver Richard Chow was on hunger strike for medallion debt relief with Zohran Mamdani a little over four years ago.

I appreciate wanting the golden age of travel as if we are all traveling on the train with Cary Grant in North By Northwest. But it’s easier to sleep in the airport during long flight delays if you are already wearing your pajamas.

“Just one more thing. You said the Epstein files were a Democratic hoax—cooked up by Obama, Hillary, and Biden. But here’s the part I can’t figure out: you were a confidential FBI informant on the Epstein case. So tell me, how exactly did the Democrats get you to spy on a hoax?”
Donald Trump mulling over whether to support @andrewcuomo or @ericadamsfornyc should tell us everything we need to know about this race.
@ZohranKMamdani is the only candidate who will stand up against @realDonaldTrump’s cruel, anti-NY agenda.

“Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.”
- Frederick Douglass (1818-1895)
