Unfortunately, I have to admit that I have not done my best. My current situation is a direct consequence of my incompetence. I suck at doing this life thing.
While I was in Japan, umeshu (plum wine/liqueur) quickly became my end-of-day addiction.
For the entire month I was there, I’d walk into a restaurant and order a glass of plum wine before calling it a day. By the time I left, I was hooked.
I brought back four bottles to Nigeria, and foolishly gave away 3 and kept only 1. Of course, that one eventually finished, and I found myself searching high and low for where to get plum wine in Lagos.
That search led me to what is probably the only Japanese store in Lagos: JPMan (@jpman_world on IG). They’re located at Mushin.
I did not get to properly explore the store or take other pictures, because, frankly, I was there for the booze 😭
But I spoke with the founder, and I’m genuinely excited about what they’re building. Right now, they stock Japanese alcohol and home items, and by the end of the month, they’ll be bringing in Japanese snacks, ramen, and more.
It’s going to slowly become Japan in Nigeria, and I can’t wait to see how the store evolves.
I don’t like that people can’t seem to accept me with any other temperament beside happiness, joy, humor, being the life of the party. Like.. hello? I am also a.. human.
