Congratulations to @AndrewKnack
This is a win for #yegcc and underscores that we do not want parties in our municipal politics!
He was the best choice and I look forward to being lead by someone who values information accuracy, real solutions and continuous learning.
#BREAKING Tim Cartmell has conceded.
Andrew Knack is the new mayor of Edmonton.
Cartmell is more than 10,000 back with about 57% of polls reporting.

Children with exceptionalities and disabilities have been excluded from learning for over a month now because @EPSBNews and @Alberta_UCP have refused to make a good faith deal and get EAs and support staff back into the classroom. This is discrimination.
❗Breaking: Alberta minister quietly lifted the coal moratorium (again), meaning Albertans are about to see a lot more coal activity in our mountains. This reverts protections and lifts the suspensions on any approvals paused under the previous orders.
Up before dawn and on the picket line at M.E. LaZerte School this morning, standing in solidarity with educational support workers!
Education Assistants are the backbone of our schools, doing vital work to support students every day. They deserve fair wages, respect, and recognition—not to be left struggling on starvation pay.
It was inspiring to see my friend David Shepherd, raising his voice alongside these incredible workers and calling on the Alberta government to step up and do the right thing.
Canada’s NDP will always stand with workers in their fight for fairness. Together, we’ll keep pushing for dignity and respect for everyone.
Solidarity, friends!

It must be nice to give yourself a raise, like MLAs did just yesterday.
We have both part & full time workers. They all deserve a raise. Support staff haven’t had a real raise in 10 years. In that time, inflation has been 30%.
Alberta has the lowest education funding in Canada.
Jason Kenney froze MLA salaries.
Now, the UCP wants to increase them.
Not only that, they wants to index them to inflation.
Meanwhile, education support workers are dealing with between 8 and 10 years of wage freezes and proposed wages under inflation.
Education support workers in Alberta haven't seen a raise in over a decade. They've fallen too far behind. It's not fair to keep pushing shortfalls onto students and the staff they rely on.

Every single budget amendment has been tabled. Tim Cartmell has proposed not a single reduction.
Remember that when he votes against the budget later this week saying it's "too high".
He was in the room where it happened, but he missed his shot.
Tim Cartmell is on the media circuit because he really wants you to know that he doesn't ever attempt to do the job he already has.
If only someone could have asked more detailed questions before Tim Cartmell voted in favour of these projects!
Early this morning #UAlberta called in Edmonton Police to violently clear an entirely peaceful and beautifully communal encampment set up by students to demand that @UAlberta divest from companies complicit in Israeli apartheid and genocide. Shameful. 1/
Early this morning, the Edmonton Police used violence and force to sweep the encampments set up in support of Palestine at the U of A.
I was there yesterday. I left feeling hopeful and inspired by the young activists.
I’m disgusted and I’m angry.
And I won’t be silent.
FCM stands with @ABmunis and @RuralMA in expressing concern about Alberta’s Bill-20. This bill threatens to undermine municipal autonomy in a way that could make it harder for local governments to serve Canadians.
Happy to hear about this reversal from the Minister. The right decision.
And thanks to my colleagues on #yyccc and #yegcc in standing united against the proposed cut.
A win for those who need it most in both cities.
#ableg
As well as threaten the safety of children and cut funding from those with the lowest income.
Are there people who are actually happy with this?
What can we do besides wait for another election?
Everyday we see the UCP prioritize/act on things:
1) They didn’t campaign on
2) That goes against the voice of Albertans
3) That doesn’t address our actual issues (pending wildfires, paying CoE tax bill, getting rural municipalities paid overdue taxes and wells cleaned)
City councillors are not appointees, they are elected representatives and electorates deserve respect.
Bill 20 overrules electorates, consolidates power in cabinet, it diminishes power of the voters, undermines democracy and erodes public accountability.
I short, BAD IDEA! #ableg
Last year, the UCP government asked Albertans about having political parties involved in local government.
The survey happened from November 7 to December 6. Guess what? More than 70% of the folks who answered didn't like the idea!
They were worried that it might make things too much like what they see in American politics. My struggle is that why does the premier not share the results of the survey with Albertans? #RevokeBill20
