@profparry@MRCza It’s quite disconcerting that these narratives are still being presented when newer and more scientifically robust studies including those conducted by the HSRC on GBV and RTMC on Road incidents exist.
@msnkathamwenda@profparry@cape Disagree. It speaks about moderate consumption being beneficial and this has scientific merit based on several published studies. It does contradict the WHO no safe level narrative which many academics are showing to be untrue. Let’s argue physiology now and not opinion or agenda
@profparry I highly disagree. The industry isn’t shortsighted ie. to make a quick buck & then lose a customer due to ill health. They would prefer to have a healthy customer that enjoys their product for a long period of time. So contrary to your belief they do care about harm reduction.
@profparry@CTICC_Official Even digital marketing of alcohol is regulated and is meant to carry the No Underage Drinking warning at the minimum. I do agree that there needs to be clear guidelines on digital marketing which is currently managed through the ARB. I would love to be apart of the discussion.
@profparry@DStv It was 3 proudly SA companies that stepped up to bring us the rugby, not just SAB. For the record, the other 2 were Hollywood bets & Pineapple insurance. Should you not also be complaining to the gambling board and ombudsman for the advertising they do during the rugby matches?
@profparry@HealthZA@The_DSD This is not an official SAB advert but just a meme. SAB subscribes to an industry code of conduct for advertising and would never release an advert like this as they will be subject to huge penalties. Contrary to popular belief the alcohol industry is highly regulated.

@profparry@WesternCapeGov@_WCLA This is a fantastic idea 👍🏽 Perhaps we must propose this to the Provincial liquor board as they ultimately set the prices for renewable etc…
@profparry Perhaps engaging with the said industry rather than forming an opinion without facts would better qualify you to make such remarks. FYI, the industry is considering all of the above and more and is basing its decisions on science and evidence rather than emotion and opinions.
@profparry Your maths assumes that alcohol is the direct cause of GBV whereas as medical science shows that GBV is due to psychological disorders. There are millions of men who drink alcohol and don’t beat up women.
