Based on the Rangarajan Poverty Line (which is higher than than Tendulkar line, hence more conservative): India has made unprecedented gains in poverty reduction in the last decade. Every state & UT has seen an impressive fall in their poverty rate. More than 30 Cr people have come out of poverty (~302M) since 2011-12 #Historic
PAFI Foundation Day celebrations began with an insightful session on “India’s Economy at an Inflection Point: The State of the Economy Today and the Road to Sustained Growth” with Dr @ShamikaRavi, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India.
Dr Ravi offered members an overarching perspective on India’s growth trajectory, while acknowledging the measures and reforms still required for the country to become truly Viksit.
Ajay Khanna (@khannaajay), Founder, PAFI, introduced the chief guest and set the context for the powerful conversation that followed. The session was opened and moderated by Shivnath Thukral (@shivithukral), President, PAFI, and was closed by Ranjeet Goswami (@majorranjeet), Vice President, PAFI, who encapsulated the key takeaways for members.

For three years, a software engineer from Pune on assignment in London watched two deductions leave her payslip every month: one into the UK's National Insurance scheme, the other into India's Employees' Provident Fund back home, because her employer kept her enrolled in India's system even while she worked abroad. She would never draw a UK pension. Yet every month, roughly 15 per cent of her salary was set aside twice, once for a benefit she would use, once for one she never would. From July 2026, she keeps only one deduction. The other simply disappears.
That single deleted line on a payslip is a more honest measure of what India just negotiated with Britain than any tariff schedule. Trade agreements are usually read through their headline numbers: cheaper Scotch, easier textile access, projected export gains. The Double Contribution Convention (DCC), woven into the landmark India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) rather than left standalone, belongs to a rarer category. It does not change what anything costs on a shelf. It changes what nearly seventy-five thousand Indian professionals, across one of the largest corporate corridors linking the two economies, keep in their pockets every month.
I highlight how Indian talent is its global competitive advantage and Indian Government under PM @narendramodi and trade Minister @PiyushGoyal has navigated it through the maze of tariff and non-tariff barriers to deliver for Indians even under a very troubled global environment for global migration and AI.
Mobility is the real market access in today’s world.

@ShamikaRavi Ma’am at today’s PAFI dialogue — a masterclass in turning data into stories.
Her remarks on the care economy, labour markets, and narrative economics stood out.
Easily one of the best presentations I’ve heard.

#WATCH | Delhi | Principal Secretary to PM, Dr PK Mishra says, "The Indian statistical system, which has a glorious past, saw some decline for a few years, but the system itself and others have been able to revive it. Also, the Prime Minister's office played a catalyst and a facilitator. The way we have now improved our system, I'm sure it will again become very well established and predominant globally."
"A lot of data is generated by our departments, ministries and digital activities also. So, how to use the potential of the data, how to standardise it, how to make it compatible with each other, how to derive inferences from the data, how to ensure that the data is as trusted as comprehensive and as compatible as the earlier survey data or maybe it is expanding the scope of our statistics."
India has shown remarkable stability during tough and testing times globally, despite our structural vulnerabilities. It has been achieved by ensuring macroeconomic stability over the last decade while making policy-making responsive and agile.
We are committed to further the process of Aatmanirbharta to safeguard our nation.
Prof. @ShamikaRavi , Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) and Member of the Committee on Demographic Change, challenged delegates to look beyond headlines and understand how data shapes public policy.
The discussion highlighted how India's economic transformation must be measured not just through GDP, but through tangible improvements in the quality of people's lives. Drawing on recent household consumption data, Prof. Ravi demonstrated how rising incomes, greater food diversity, improved access to fresh fruits, milk, protein-rich diets, and increased ownership of household assets reflect meaningful changes in living standards across the country.
Delegates also explored why evidence-based policymaking is essential for effective governance. Through examples ranging from nutrition and public health to strategic petroleum reserves and consumption trends, the session illustrated how rigorous data analysis helps governments identify challenges, design targeted interventions, and evaluate long-term outcomes.
An equally important discussion focused on India's demographic dividend. Prof. Ravi emphasized that the country's greatest growth constraint today is not capital, but the availability of skilled human resources. She encouraged young people to invest in acquiring market-relevant skills and cautioned against spending years pursuing highly competitive examinations at the cost of productive career opportunities.

2014 marked a tectonic shift in India’s approach to public hygiene & sanitation. #SwachhBharatMission will be remembered as one of the biggest achievements of Modi administration. Its far-reaching impacts include generational improvements in health indicators and safety of women & girls. Here is the most recent research on the impact of SBM on infant mortality across the nook & cranny of this massive country. Beautiful graphics.

Today, on my final day as Director of National Intelligence, I’m releasing never-before-seen communications and documents exposing how Dr. Fauci provided millions in US taxpayer dollars to fund dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, worked with politicized elements within the Intelligence Community to suppress the truth about his actions and hide the virus’ lab-leak origins, and lied to Congress while under oath in 2024. It’s time you know the truth.
