Stella Obasanjo Hospital to Become Medical Hub, House World-Class Health Facilities – @GovernorObaseki …expresses satisfaction over quality of work done so far inspects Benin City Mall, Observer Newspaper Nosakhare Agbonigiarhuoyi Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that upon completion, the Stella Obasanjo Hospital which is currently undergoing major expansion and rehabilitation works, will house world-class medical equipment. He made this remark on Wednesday 29 November 2023, after an inspection tour of the facility, expressing satisfaction over the quality of work done so far. Addressing the press, the Governor noted that the hospital complex has been expanded and redesigned to become a medical hub, housing both medical and administrative facilities. Obaseki said: “As you are aware, we are trying to finish strong. So, the two key areas of intervention, which are education and health, are the areas we are currently honing. “We have done all the reforms in terms of processes, procedures, and technology. Now we are trying to finish with the infrastructure, particularly the governance infrastructure. Just as you will see with the education hub, this is going to be the health hub. So, it is going to be a combination of hospital and administration facilities.” “The last time we were here, the Out-Patient Department (OPD) was not complete. You can see now, the furniture and equipment are in, and hopefully, installation and commissioning of the equipment will commence before the end of the year. “The In-Patient Department (IPD) is going to have facilities for diagnostics, laboratories, and over 200 beds, which is bigger than any hotel in Benin today. It is going to be a modern hospital fitted with all the facilities, with gas pipes into each room, high end technology equipment for treating a whole wide range of diseases and conditions, and all the things that you find in any hospital anywhere in the world.” The Governor noted that one of the reasons the Central Hospital was moved from its previous location was to site it in a more befitting terrain with adequate land expanse and facilities. Obaseki further said that he was at the site to motivate the contractors so they can accelerate the ongoing expansion and rehabilitation works, so that the hospital can be ready for use by May 2024 as promised. He also visited the revamped Nigerian Observer Newspaper to inspect the facility and the sophisticated equipment newly purchased for use at the media house. October 26, 2023 Press Statement Presidential Appeal: Supreme Court Judgment is Disappointing, Concerning -@OfficialPDPNig …Says Apex Court Has Failed Nigerians The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is appalled by the judgment of the Supreme Court in the petition filed by the PDP and Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar against the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) @OfficialAPCNg and Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT as winners of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). @inecnigeria The PDP and indeed majority of Nigerians are alarmed, disappointed and gravely concerned with the reasoning of the Supreme Court which the PDP believes is against the express provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2022, the Guideline and Regulation issued by INEC under which the election was conducted. The PDP asserts that it is indeed a sad commentary for our democracy that the Supreme Court failed to uphold the provisions of the law. Instead, it trashed the expectation of majority of Nigerians who looked up to it as a Temple of Impartiality to deliver substantial justice in the matter having regards to the laws and facts of the case. Nigerians earnestly expected the Supreme Court to uphold and defend the clear provisions of the 1999 Constitution in terms of qualification and minimum requirement for a winner to be declared in a Presidential election in Nigeria especially with regards to the required statutory 25% of votes in the FCT as well as issues of violation of electoral Rules and Guidelines, brazen manipulations and alterations of election results by the APC. Nigerians are still at a loss as to how the Supreme Court condoned the serious issues of forgery, falsehood and perjury on the altar of technicalities. The general gloom, melancholy and sense of despondency across the country upon the delivery of the judgment is an ominous sign of eerie situation which portend grave consequences because of the disappointment embedded in the judgment. This judgment by the Supreme Court has evidently shaken the confidence of Nigerians in the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court as the last hope of the common man. The PDP remains undeterred and charges Nigerians not to be discouraged or allow the judgment to detract from their collective quest for the entrenchment of a credible electoral system that can guarantee a government that truly derive its legitimacy from the people.
