“Dialogue is our best and only hope for peace.”
From the Middle East to Ukraine, Sudan and beyond, @antonioguterres urges the pursuit of dialogue to help resolve conflict. https://t.co/N7Ld8sKuCx
Tre anni fa veniva a mancare Silvio Berlusconi.
Il cosiddetto "campo largo" no.
Hostilities and displacement orders have forced more people from their homes in Lebanon.
Humanitarians are working around the clock to deliver urgent support.
As needs rise, the humanitarian community is calling for solidarity with the people of Lebanon. https://t.co/FAzPg9KEyg
The past eleven years have been the hottest on record.
Every fraction of a degree brings greater harm – especially to the most vulnerable.
This #WorldEnvironmentDay, warning signals are everywhere.
This is the moment to act for our environment & for our future.
The Princess Royal has officially launched Challenger 5, the newest addition to the @TallShipsYT fleet! ⚓️
Designed as a ‘floating classroom’, Challenger 5 will give even more young people the chance to develop new skills, build confidence, and realise their potential at sea.
⛵️During a visit to Portsmouth, HRH met staff, volunteers, and young people involved with Tall Ships Youth Trust, a youth development and outdoor learning charity, and toured the new vessel before it sets sail on its first adventures.
In the pre-dawn hours of June 6, 1944, American and Allied forces stormed a 50-mile stretch of beach in Normandy, France, winning a crucial victory that turned the tide of World War II and changed the course of history. The largest amphibious invasion in history—Operation Overlord—was achieved through meticulous planning, utilizing 13,000 aircraft and gliders, 23,400 paratroopers, 5,000 ships and landing craft, and roughly 160,000 American, British, and Canadian troops. By nightfall, the valiance and intrepidity of the Allied soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and merchant mariners had carried the day, establishing beachheads on all five of the landing beaches – Omaha, Utah, Sword, Gold, and Juno. This victory, though, was achieved at great cost. More than 9,000 Allied service members were killed or wounded that day, to ensure that freedom would once again prevail over the European continent.
Today, on the 82nd anniversary of D-day, we pause to pay homage to the warfighters whose indescribable valor, fierce determination, and unwavering patriotism delivered this pivotal victory for the global cause of freedom. The monumental victory forged on land, at sea, and in the skies of Normandy led to the liberation of Europe, the defeat of the evil Nazi regime, and the preservation of democracy. We are grateful for those young men who answered their nations’ calls and faced the carnage of war in order to defeat tyranny—and we are eternally indebted to the souls who gave their lives in this noble struggle. It is our solemn obligation to remember their heroic stories, honor their sacrifices, and ensure that the freedom for which they died for may never again be in peril.
For the first time in history, The King, as Sovereign and Captain General of the @RoyalMarines, has presented new Colours to 40, 42, 43 and 45 Commando Royal Marines at Windsor Castle.
It is the first time that four Commando units have received new Colours concurrently.
Addressing troops on parade and their guests, His Majesty said:
“It is now twenty-five years since my father, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, presented new Colours to the Royal Marines, and so it gives me immense pride and pleasure to be able to do so once again today.”
We are building a more independent European Union.
A Union that’s more secure, resilient and complete.
And it will not be complete without the Western Balkans ↓ https://t.co/SDeFXLwvsi
A clean, healthy and sustainable environment is a human right.
Its effective implementation is a legal obligation that supports stronger action to address environmental crises, including climate change.
This World Environment Day, OHCHR and partners are highlighting human rights solutions through the RHRN Global Youth Climate Summit and inviting people everywhere to contribute their own ideas through the Sumaúma Pledging Tree for Human Rights-Based Climate Action.
Take action now for people and the planet.
A true giant in journalism, Jon Snow has spent his life asking difficult questions and telling important stories.
Now, in sharing his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, he is helping others feel less alone and raising awareness of a condition that affects so many families.
I welcome the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel & Lebanon.
The @UN supports all efforts to end the hostilities & alleviate the suffering of communities on both sides of the Blue Line.
I urge all actors to fully respect the cessation of hostilities, cease any further attacks & to comply with their obligations under international law.
