I'm just trying to recall all the hand-wringing and excessive displays of concern or distress when the Undertaker went missing before SummerSlam and for the life of me I just can't!
I guess you have to have a Pizza Hut sponsorship to run that angle 🤔
Tell the internet wrestling community that a billionaire in a limo blows up, nobody panics, because it's all "part of the plan". But when one indy wrestler goes missing, well then everyone loses their minds!
@bellebeefer I still say it literally takes a moment of deductive reasoning to recognize it was a work.
MI guess the marks get upset nowadays when they get worked. 🤔
@bellebeefer If a dramatic TV show or movie can have a missing person storyline why can't pro wrestling?
Why don't we get the same creative leeway as other forms of entertainment?
We've argued that it's just a work for so long, but now... 🤔
Can't have your cake and eat it too.
@bellebeefer Are they? All 3 are arguably poor-taste works. Is it the artist responsibility to accurately predict the emotional reaction of their audience? How do we navigate this grey area?
Missing persons, arson, assault & battery... all crimes portrayed in a dramatic setting. What's OK?
@bellebeefer Maybe, but I can list at least twenty occasions when pro wrestling has pushed the envelope considerably more and received little to no backlash like what Oasis Pro got. Seems like WWE and TV companies get a pass but indies are held to a different standard. Hypocrisy
@bellebeefer Wrestling is fueled on poor taste.
And in the immortal words of Pablo Picasso "What a dreadful thing! Taste is the enemy of creativeness."
@bellebeefer That is an issue. People do have a tendency to make knee jerk reactions before absorbing all the information available to them.
I'll still never apologize for working the marks. It's in my DNA.
@bellebeefer I'm sorry but I'm a carny at heart and working the fans is my joy. There is bliss to be found in a good con. I'm concerned that "working the marks" is becoming politically incorrect and I abhore that idea 🤷♂️
@bellebeefer I think it takes literally a moment of deductive reasoning to recognize what a work it was. If we can't play in imaginary places and work the audience what are we doing? We've lost the narrative.
Pro wrestling is a work! All of it always!
