The #1 priority of admin should be staff morale.
Everything else is secondary. Here's a few tips:
* give them a voice
* Trust them as professionals
* Treat everyone as individuals/ humans
* Respect their time
* Show them you care personal/professional
* celebrate/ appreciate

While the principal is the thermostat, the culture of a school is created by everyone in the school. Walk in a school and see how the front office staff talks and interacts or the staff /teachers in the hallway. Everyone is ultimately responsible for a positive school culture.
Effective leaders understand.
* they don't have to know it all
* EQ often more important than IQ
* the importance of using "we" in praise & "I" in blame
* that conflict handled correctly has positive benefits
* celebrate small wins

Teaching is such a strange profession when you look at the culture that ebbs and flows around it.
A fascinating read and so applicable to many Irish schools.
My take away
Leadership should mould positive environments and address conflict at all levels.
