Joker: Folie à Deux (2024) dir. Todd Phillips, d.p. Lawrence Sher
Arguably the most breathtaking, jaw-dropping cinematography for a critical & commercial flop ever.
Here are my favorite frames.
@bianime@ltsreallove i saw it in theaters too and thought the lighting was good. it did the job it was supposed to, both in theater and on streaming. saying you can't see shit is just objectively untrue
@bianime@ltsreallove her face literally isnt lit on purpose. it's an intentionally done several times in the film for only nikki's character. if you cant acknowledge the fact that it's an artistic choice rather than "horrible lighting", then i just cant accept your criticism bc it's not in good faith
@bianime@ltsreallove well, that's the point. you're not supposed to see shot 2 & 3 in bright detail. it's dimly lit for eerie and mysterious effect bc it's a horror film. but even then, you can still clearly make out the finer details like the sparkle in her eyes or the set up of the room.
@fr3qu3ncy13@ltsreallove i never said it was a deep film. i literally said it knows what it can do and it knows what it can't do and it knows those things very well. my sentiment was that it doesn't try to go big or have some grand meaning. the story is very simple, but the small things are well-done.
what’s going on in the replies calling this scene unnecessary??? it is absolutely necessary. it conveys the torment emily blunt’s character is going thru at listening to her husband describe his affair in details so vivid that it’s like she’s there watching them (hence the scene)

@punishednuz while i wouldn’t spoil anyone’s fun by verbalizing it first, i agree with op bc a lot of filmtwt is just recycled phrases/reactions—“floated/levitated out of my seat” becoming the most recent overused one. i feel like if you’re gonna over-exaggerate, at least be creative.
