OPEN MAINNET: End of 2024 or Pi Day 2025?
I see a lot of mental gymnastics from Pioneers trying to rationalize that open mainnet is Pi Day 2025, mainly because Nicolas said in the Pi2Day video, 5 months ago, that "this is the last Pi2Day before Open Network".
It's interesting how you guys dwell on that statement so much but you ignore the fact that on that same Pi Day 2024, after that statement was made, PCT again said "we're still on track to reach Open Network by the end of 2024"
This was the tweet they made on Pi2Day:
"Happy Pi2Day 2024! This is the LAST Pi2Day before Open Network, and we're still on track to reach Open Network by the end of 2024."
How does that mean that CT is planning Open Network for 2025? 😂
You guys just stress your brain with unnecessary mental gymnastics lol
Now here's one factor that you guys don't pay attention to, but you could do some mental gymnastics around, based on my analysis of the context of the 6 months grace period:
The Mainnet token supply model.
Currently, we don't have a time-based supply cap for mining rewards because PCT does not know exactly how much Pi would be left for mining after fake accounts have been removed.
And this is needed, preferably, on a yearly basis. I can assume financial reporting to be one of the reasons for complaince sakes.
That is why CT said there is gonna be a new mainnet mining mechanism with yearly supply cap at the beginning of Open Network, and this cap will be based on a declining formula.
However, CT needs to know the supply that will be left after fake accounts are removed, before they can establish the yearly supply cap and declining formula.
This is why the yearly declining formula and supply numbers will need to be finalized closer to the launch of the Open Network, once we will have seen how many Pioneers have KYC’ed and how much of their mined Pi they have transferred into Mainnet.
This brings us to the 6 months grace period and the 3 conditions for Open Mainnet.
The grace period provides the needed parameters for CT to establish the declining formula and yearly supply cap, because by the end of the period, the effect of KYC and Migration would've revealed how much was truly mined before Open Mainnet, and how much is left to mined.
Do you think it was just random that the Grace Period started on July 1st and will end on December 31st for a new year to start when the CT have already said they will establish yearly supply limits? And that this limit (and formula) needs to be finalized very close to Open Network launch?
Obviously the yearly supply limit will be a January to December affair as the grace period ends just before it starts.
Then as regards the 3 conditions for Open Network, they are the only parameters that can be used to ascertain the time of Open Mainnet because, otherwise, it would reflect bad on the integrity of PCT.
We all know that CT will meet up with KYC and Migration goals because, if that prevents us from entering Open Network, the blame will be on them. They won't allow it.
The only thing that can cause disruption is the external factors. And Nicolas saying "this is the last Pi2Day before Open Network" is not an external factor that will delay Open Network till Q2 2025.
Honestly, the only thing I am concerned about is the goal of 100 mainnet apps. That goal has progressed slower than the other other goals that's why we barely get updates on it.
But I still have faith
Just because Nicolas did not say that Pi Day this year was the last Pi Day, does not imply that there's another enclosed network Pi Day coming in 2025.
If you want to do mental gymnastics, do it on the facts I just analyzed for you. They're all in the white paper.
I'll host a twitter space tomorrow 24th, by 3pm.
