"India cannot build Frontier Language Models"

Bangalore Paper Club edition 2 happened Last night - The theme was alternate architectures for language models. Why?

Scaling is a compute game. Architecture is an ideas game.

One needs GPUs you have to buy. The other needs questions worth asking. If the frontier gets redrawn, it won't be by stacking more layers - it'll be by rethinking the ones we have.

4 papers were presented -

1. LLaDA - Large Language Diffusion Model
2. TwoTower - new architecture for Diffusion Language Models
3. CLEGR - new benchmark for Graph-Language Models
4. Dognosis - cancer detection via Canine Olfaction

Thanks for showing up and asking questions - My personal takeaway was that there are more people working in diffusion language models domain than I originally thought. And that's the whole point of running a paper club.

I spoke about Embedded Systems in Drones at https://t.co/GkdkxiSYMJ 's monthly meetup number 6 today!

I talked about the electronic anatomy of a drone, the brain of whole operation, sensor inputs, control loops, fusion techniques, and of course, AI. I put forward the notion that when it comes to vision systems, AI is simply a CV pipeline with a feedback system, coupled with a dataset containing references that are added as an input.

Shoutout to all those who attended today, and I hope that you enjoyed the sessions, walking away with something of value!

A massive fire, allegedly triggered by burning garbage, gutted around 50 houses in Dhamangaon village under Bhiwapur tehsil of Maharashtra's Nagpur district, leaving several families homeless and causing heavy loss to property and livestock, officials said today.

The incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Saturday in Dhamangaon (Vidya Mandir), located about 15 km from Bhiwapur. According to preliminary information, the fire originated from garbage set ablaze in a nearby field, which smouldered through the day before flaring up due to strong winds in the evening.

The flames quickly spread to nearby houses, aided by dry vegetation and closely built structures, engulfing a large portion of the village within a short span of time.
Villagers made frantic efforts to douse the fire using available water and resources, but the intensity of the blaze made it difficult to control. Panic gripped the area as residents tried to save their homes and cattle. Several animals were reportedly charred to death, while vehicles including bicycles, two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws were reduced to ashes.
