Indiranagar in Bengaluru is named after the renowned Kannada novelist M.K. Indira (Mandagadde Krishnarao Indira, 1917–1994), not after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi like most think.

Indiranagara was developed as a Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) layout in the late 1970s (primarily 1976–1978). It was carved out of older villages such as Binnamangala, Thippasandra, and others on what was then the eastern edge of the city.

M.K. Indira was a prominent Kannada writer who began publishing novels relatively late in life (around age 45). She is best known for socially conscious works that highlighted the struggles of women:

Phaniyamma (1976) — Based on the real-life story of a child widow; later adapted into an acclaimed film by Prema Karanth.

Gejje Pooje (1966) — Explored the Devadasi system; also made into a well-known film by Puttanna Kanagal.

Other notable works include Tungabhadra, Sadananda, and Navaratna.

WHY ARE WORKERS AGITATING???

Today morning, Satyanarayana, a housekeeping supervisor at PVR Galleria, Punjagutta, Hyderabad came to work as usual.

But suddenly started experiencing discomfort in his chest and told the management that he wants to leave. He was not given permission to go.

After a little while, Satyanarayana started throwing up and fell unconscious in front of the movie projection screen while working!

Guess what the management of PVR Galleria did???

They got him lifted from inside the mall and left him on the footpath 🙏🏽

He was left to die on the road…!!!

Movie Screening giant, PVR, reported ₹ 58,746 million consolidated revenue in 2025!!!

They didn’t have an iota of humanity in their heart to even call for an ambulance and treat Satyanarayana as a human.

He was dumped on the street like some garbage…!!!

Satyanarayana probably is a third party employee and PVR Galleria probably didn’t want their morning business to be affected by a dead worker in their premises. Also, if they called for an ambulance, they would have to pay a few lakhs towards the treatment. Why lose money for a worker?? Was that the thought process? @_PVRCinemas

Wife of Satyanarayana was seen asking what stopped them from calling an ambulance and sending him to a government hospital at least. There is NIMS Hospital just 5mins away from their mall!!!

Such shamelessness!

Today is Apple's 50th birthday.

Fun story on the name: Apple (likely) got their name from the Beatles, who were inspired by the surrealist painter Magritte!

Paul McCartney loved Rene Magritte. You're likely familiar with "Son of Man," a painting of a man with an Apple instead of a face. You can see Magritte posters in the background of many early Beatles photos.

In 1968, the Beatles needed to set up a company structure. McCartney liked the name Apple, inspired by the posters of Magritte, and they added "Corps" as a pun on "Core." The logo was a Granny Smith apple, same as the Magritte painting.

8 years later (50 years ago today!), Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer. He was a Beatles superfan and loved the Beatles company name Apple Corps.

The Beatles sued shortly after in 1978, given the similarities. They settled in 1981 for $80K. In exchange, Apple Computer agreed not to enter the music business, and Apple Corps agreed to stay out of computers.

Then Apple added a sound card to Macs in '89. Apple Corps (Beatles) sued again. In 1991 they won $26.5M. Apple was guilty of distributing music because of the system sound. The settlement said Apple Computer could make devices that play music but couldn't distribute music.

Apple actually named their system alert "Sosumi."

Then, of course, iTunes happened, and the Beatles sued again. In 2007 they settled for good... Apple bought all the Apple trademarks for a reported $500M and licensed some back to Apple Corps, and as part of the agreement, the Beatles catalog became available on iTunes.

Note: there is an alternate story where Jobs came up with the name Apple after spending a day at an Apple orchard in Oregon. Most say that was probably cover for the litigation between Apple and the Beatles, since this orchard story didn't develop until after they were sued by the Beatles. Woz dodged the question saying he isn't sure where the name came from.

I wasn't quite sure whether I would be writing this. But skyrocketing popularity of #Gilli in #BBK12 forced me to write this, not just online but offline as well. I see people are not only watching but enjoying Gilli's dominance in the show.

First, and foremost is his confidence in the Malavalli dialect. Many semi-literate/literate people try to hide their dialect and switch to formal Kannada and thereby turn themselves ineffective or less impactful in conversations. Gilli is not at all hiding his dialect like he will pronounce ಸ instead of ಶ so confidently that even literate-elite person will get used to it.

Second, his ability to blend humour on the dialectical substrate, is really gifted. His spontaneity in striking conversation and converting instantly into roasting and hence exposing the fellow contestants is commendable.

Third, there aren't much high-quality comedy cum roasting shows in Kannada and #Gilli fills that gap in entertainment segment so perfectly that people are not able take their eyes/ears off from the show.

Fourth, his socio-psychological banter actually has interesting commentaries about the contemporary rural or semi-urban Kannada society. He is able to extract comedy from the behaviour of people in the events like marriage in rural or semi-urban setup.

Lastly, it is Interesting to see how the TV shows in post-literate information era is turning dialectical oratory skills into celebrity status which is paradoxical by itself!
