A borrowed umbrella feels powerful... until the owner wants it back and the rain starts negotiating with your confidence.
Every kingdom has people who mistake access for value. The powerful can introduce you. Only your reputation can reintroduce you after they leave.
This poem was programmed into my brains from my primary school days; Work while you work, play while you play; All that you do, do with all your might; Things done by halves are never done right. It was not too long I found out it was by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Genuine people often assume others are the same, until adulthood proves otherwise. If you grew up around mostly kind people, that lesson can hit repeatedly. Being genuine isn’t just being nice; it’s staying aware, reading people clearly, and not giving trust away automatically.
Pattern recognition creates intelligence, consistency builds perception, and repeated disappointment can shift a person from dependence toward self-awareness—where trust is no longer automatic, but considered.
I have fond memories of the Barca open in 2008. John Croft, I think was on BBC 5 live radio commentary that weekend. That particular Prix reminded of Team Ferrari who occupied first and second position. Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa. Hamilton was driving for McClaren then.

Nobody grew up with the intention of being a cleaner, cashier, or security guard. We all had big dreams, but life happened. Dear son, Respect other people’s jobs.
England used to have many Tottenham players in their national team and that did not bring them any trophies.
Now they have too many Arsenal players who have also failed to win major trophies, which could hurt England’s chances of going far in the World Cup.
Players like Saka, Eze & Rice have talent, but questions remain about their mentality when it comes to winning at the highest level.

By all means, have Principles and Standards. Copied
I finally understand what Machiavelli meant when he said, “Never play fair in a game where others cheat.” It doesn’t mean become evil. It means stop being naive. Stop bringing honesty to people who study manipulation, stop giving access to people who weaponize closeness, and stop expecting clean hands from people who already showed you they’ll throw dirt. Sometimes wisdom is not revenge. Sometimes wisdom is learning the rules of the room before the room uses your goodness against you.
