According to this report, the USA and Massod were arming Kurdish forces to enter Iran and start an insurgency to overthrow the Iranian Regime.

Turkish President Erdogan called Trump and complained, which ultimately halted the operation.

Turkey, a NATO ally, considers the PKK a terrorist organization.
