"What pains me most is that, in so much of the rhetoric and so many of the positions we have witnessed, the human being in Gaza seems to have been reduced to a number—a civilian repeatedly told to leave, again and again, or remain and face death"—Watch our interview w/ Eyad Amawi

🎥 WATCH: Massacre at Minab: The School That Became a Grave
In the opening hours of the war against Iran, on February 28, 2026, the U.S. military fired Tomahawk cruise missiles directly at a school in the southern city of Minab. At least 156 people were killed that morning at Shajareh Tayyebeh school—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers.
It will go down in history as one of the gravest war crimes committed by the U.S. government since Vietnam.
Drop Site News conducted a two-month investigation into the strike, speaking with survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day. This is their story.

I first met Palestinian journalist Mujahed Al-Saadi in Jenin in 2022, when doing a documentary on the killing of his friend and colleague Shireen Abu Akleh. He then reported for Drop Site in September 2024. Later that month, he was arrested by Israeli forces from his home. 🧵
He was imprisoned for 22 months in administrative detention, without charge or trial. He lost a third of his body weight in prison. He was finally released this past July. He writes about his harrowing experience in Israeli detention for the first time. Read it in the link below:
🚨🎥 “We will finally give them the most basic human right: to honor them and lay them to rest.”
Hundreds gathered in Gaza City on Thursday for the mass funeral of 105 Palestinians killed on October 25, 2023, when Israeli forces dropped at least 20 bombs on the Al-Taj residential block and surrounding buildings in Yarmouk Square.
Nearly three years later, it took Civil Defense crews, aided by Egyptian teams, 20 days of searching and digging through the rubble to recover the remains.
“We were able to recover 105 martyrs: children, women, the elderly, patients, engineers, doctors, nurses, and academics,” Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal told Drop Site’s Mohamed Ahmed.
Basal said some 8,000 victims remain beneath destroyed buildings across Gaza and called for the entry of equipment and logistical support needed to recover them. “If things remain as they are, we are talking about many years in which these families will remain beneath the rubble.”
Sumaya Bakhit, who lost 15 members of her family beneath the Al-Taj building, said the remains of three of her brother’s children, ages 9, 5, and 2, were among those finally recovered.
“We have mixed emotions—sorrow, pain, but also joy,” Bakhit said. “The feelings of loss are impossible to describe.”

🔴 NEW: Palestinian-American journalist and Drop Site contributor Naqaa Hamed is being held in Hasharon, a temporary detention facility in central Israel, and is expected to be transferred to Damon Prison, located near Haifa where most Palestinian female prisoners are held.
🔸 Hamed’s lawyer, Khaled Mahajneh, said during Thursday’s military court session, she was accused of incitement against Israeli settlers and the army, communicating with the enemy, and cooperating with the enemy.
🔸 Mahajneh argued in the session that Hamed was a professional journalist and her arrest came solely because of a campaign targeting her by Israeli settlers. He told Drop Site “the whole case is related to her journalistic work.” The military court ruled to extend her detention by six days to complete their “investigation.” Mahajneh submitted an appeal.
🔸 The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned Hamed’s detention, saying “Israeli authorities should immediately free Hamed and publicly clarify the legal basis for her detention. Unsubstantiated espionage allegations must not be used to criminalize journalism, and the systemic harassment and intimidation targeting her work in the occupied West Bank must end."
🔸 Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen called for her immediate release, saying in a post, “Another American citizen wrongfully detained by the Israeli govt.”
Israeli authorities have extended the detention of Palestinian journalist and Drop Site contributor Naqaa Hamed for six days. Her family says her detention centers around her coverage of the Israeli siege of several Palestinian homes in Qusra.
Naqaa's sister, Fatima Bajes Salem, said in a post: "As an American taxpayer, knowing that my own contributions may be helping to sustain the very system responsible for detaining my sister, an American citizen, is unbearable."

🚨 Israeli gunfire kills pregnant woman and unborn baby after striking her inside Gaza tent
Iman Shalouf, 27, was sitting inside her family’s tent in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis when Israeli gunfire struck her in the head. Seven months pregnant, she was rushed to Nasser Hospital, where doctors initially detected her unborn child Ayoub’s heartbeat and said he might survive.
“She had about two months and a week left before giving birth,” her husband, Sulaiman Abu Mashi, told Drop Site contributor Mohamed Ahmed.
Ayoub died days after the shooting, and Iman subsequently succumbed to her wounds. They were laid to rest today.
Iman’s brother-in-law, Mohammed Abu Mashi, recalled the family rushing into her tent after hearing the shot. “We rushed to the tent and found her lying in her own blood, shot in the head.”
“This is the baby they didn't even register or record as a martyr,” a relative said as the family carried Ayoub’s body.
Iman’s mother-in-law, Umm Mohammed, described the constant fear in Gaza. “We sit in fear. We sleep in fear. We walk in fear. Everything is fear.”
“This ceasefire, all of it is a lie,” Umm Mohammed said. “It’s just something to numb people, that’s all.”
