So yes, you will have very expensive bottom pieces which isn't great but in theory you will have very cheap top pieces because these guys will still be on their ELCs. I think this is the thought process behind it, don't love it but I get it.
don't get me wrong I agree with you generally; however, I think the impact pieces they want are coming up in the system. For example, Verhoeff & Lin won't play in the NHL this year and if they start their entry level contracts next year then when they end so do the Trouba & Nurse
it is almost never a good sign when a team coming out of a rebuild entering a competitive window adds bad overpriced multiyear contracts. you can spin it however you want, but it reveals something about what they value and impacts what they're able to add later on
McKenna deserves all this time and I'm not taking anything away from the kid because he and his family have earned it, but for Sharks fans, this feels like it's taking an eternity!
@jpolly22 sorry dude Sharks say no every time to this, Hellebuyck is one of the best goalies in the NHL, but behind this Sharks D he will look like shit. We need Defense not a super star goalie, also he is 33 years old Sharks are not in a cup window right now.
The San Jose Sharks:
2024 — won Macklin Celebrini with a 25.5% chance
2025 — won Michael Misa with a 18.8% chance
2026 — won Ivar Stenberg with a 5.2% chance
The #1 way to rebuild, far and away, is to get lucky.
