@camspamalam Thank you so much for these insights! There’s so many different things to weigh up! I am noticing that many people stay in their final year placements once they qualify which is seeming to up the ante for me while choosing!
Question for Qualified Clinical Psychologists / current 3rd DClinPsy trainees - how to choose final year specialist placement? What should we be prioritising - location, therapeutic modality, service, opportunity for preceptorship after?! Any tips would be appreciated!!
@LauraEdwards86 For sure! Im trying to keep my commute minimal but there is the option for me of moving back to London… will the move be too much of a stress though? This is the dilemma!
It warms my heart to see how many people from a minoritised background get onto #DClinPsy training!! I’m so so excited for this new generation of Clinical Psychologists 💪🏼
Although I often think about how much Whiteness is embedded into training and the world of Clinical Psychology. This adds another level of challenge to training for POC.
I was left feeling slightly confused. Why were no POC interviewed when 1) they too experience MH difficulties 2) live in a society that has not resolved the health inequalities that significantly impact our group.
But try to remember WHY you want to be a Clinical Psychologist. Think about what drew you to the profession. Think about the people you want to work with. Yes, the application process is crappy and hard so take a break and remember why you’re applying.
Now if you’re experiencing similar thoughts, it is okay and very normal to want to throw your application out the window at several points during this season
