The house next to mine became an Airbnb last summer.

At first, I didn’t care.

People came and went, they parked in the driveway, they had people over. Whatever. It’s not my business.

Then one Saturday morning, I started painting my back fence.

Nothing crazy.

Just me, a ladder, a paint tray and about three hours of work I’d been putting off.

Around noon, I heard someone from the Airbnb yell:

“Can you PLEASE stop doing that?”

I looked over.

A woman was standing on their patio holding a coffee.

I said, “Doing what?”

“The painting.”

I looked at my fence.

“My fence?”

“Yes. The smell is coming over here.”

I almost laughed.

I told her I’d be finished in a couple of hours.

She said, “We’re paying a lot of money to stay here. This is supposed to be a relaxing weekend.”

I just stared at her.

I didn’t tell her how much I pay in property taxes.

I didn’t tell her how many weekends I’ve spent fixing that fence myself.

I simply said:

Sometimes the simplest things bring the biggest smiles. 😂 She stayed happily entertained with a few rolls of toilet paper for so long, proving that toddlers don't always need fancy toys to have the best time. 😅🧻💕
