1. The Institutional Impact: The Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP)Following the 2010 World Cup disaster, the FA could no longer ignore the technical deficit Waddle highlighted.
Is Ian wrights rant going to be a catalyst for change? Chris Waddle’s 2010 rant was a major catalyst for change in English football, helping trigger a massive structural overhaul by the Football Association (FA).
@PaulSpacey Survivorship bias — Messi, Ronaldo, and Yamal are not representative data points; they’re outliersReal multi-sport success stories — Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey, Mohamed Salah, and Didier Drogba The missing 99.95% — The early specialization research only studies players who made it
@PaulSpacey Yes but about 1% of kids make it to the pros, why shouldn’t we let kids be kids and enjoy themselves try everything who knows what you’ll enjoy playing as an adult, we don’t want a factory system for soccer /football when most don’t make a living from playing football
@st_halvard@stevemagness Can you expand on the Norway system lots of people talking about , even at senate hearings my understanding is that is it government/national lottery funded v parent funded pay to play model
@stevemagness Yes the problem is how do you solve it, what was the outcome of the senate hearing @TomFarrey and John O’Sullivan spoke at on December 16, 2025, (House Education subcommittee) https://t.co/t6EDvkrk8d
@WallStreetApes Healthcare premiums went up after the Affordable Care Act (ACA), or Obamacare, due to a combination of new regulations and mandates, shifts in the risk pool (the mix of healthy vs. sick enrollees), and general increases in underlying medical costs.
A Historical Moment for Football Development ⚽️
I am deeply humbled and honored to share that the Scottish FA has officially released their Review of Youth Development in Men’s Football, identifying Football Starts at Home® as the first phase of their Official Development Pathway, a cornerstone of their new 10-year strategic plan.
To be recognized by the country that invented the game of football as the global leader in developing and implementing this program is both inspiring and humbling. My sincere thanks to the Scottish FA for their vision, trust, and commitment to reimagining how we develop players, starting where it matters most, at home.
This marks more than just a milestone for Scotland, it represents a paradigm shift in how the football world views early childhood development. By placing the family environment at the foundation of football’s learning journey, the Scottish FA is leading the way in creating a model that prioritizes both human and player development from the very beginning.
The implications of this move are global. As more football organizations around the world look to strengthen their pathways, this approach could redefine how nations nurture not only future players, but future generations of passionate, confident, and skillful young people.
I truly believe this is the beginning of a new era in football development. Scotland’s leadership has set a powerful example that others will surely follow.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported this journey and continues to believe in the vision that Football Starts at Home®
