110 years ago this morning, 3 hours into the #greatwar , this man, Henry Hadley, became the 1st Briton to die as a result of an enemy soldier’s gunshot. Buried in an unmarked grave in a cemetery in Gelsenkirchen. I discovered his story in a Foreign Office record at the NA #ww1
