🚀💼 CoinShares' Strategic Director on Bitcoin ETF Approval
Meltem Demirors, CoinShares' Strategic Director, believes that the potential approval of Bitcoin Spot ETFs in the coming days will not trigger a price decline for this leading cryptocurrency.

In a recent CNBC interview, Meltem Demirors stated that the continuous investment flow into cryptocurrency exchange-traded products (ETPs) reflects the ongoing demand for Bitcoin.

According to Demirors, the approval of Bitcoin Spot ETFs could lead to billions of dollars flowing into BTC.

"I don't think this is a sell-the-news event, and here's why. If we look at what happened last year, in the last week of 2023, $243 million flowed into cryptocurrency ETPs, mostly Bitcoin."

"With the launch of these new products, we've heard of one issuer putting $200 million into their fund. There are rumors that BlackRock is about to pour in $2 billion. All of that leads to buying Bitcoin, at least to the demand for Bitcoin. So, I don't think this is a sell-the-news event because the supply of Bitcoin is limited. It's one of its truly interesting and unique characteristics."

Looking at the broader cryptocurrency market, Demirors believes that conditions are not yet ripe for asset managers to start issuing ETFs based on riskier Token assets.

"When it comes to other cryptocurrencies, it will take time simply because they don't have a long enough history... Bitcoin has been around for a long time, has been battle-tested. The market is very deep, very liquid. We really don't see that in most other cryptocurrencies."

"But what we do know is that investor demand is significant. Today, there is over $50 billion AUM (Assets Under Management) globally in cryptocurrency ETPs. Currently, $38 billion of that, equivalent to over 75%, is in Bitcoin. The next $10 billion is Ethereum. Then, we have Solana, very popular this year, and a host of other products."
