@GraceinVeritas @Bessawhat This tweet makes no sense. Yes I ran, and yes my views are changing, but yes @Bessawhat follows me. I’m 19 years older than she is. So I’m not allowed to voice regret over not giving legal advice about protesting to a sister who wasn’t actually protesting?
My sister was arrested last night for watching a BLM protest outside her hotel. She’s black. I’m a lawyer but I never thought to share this important information with her. Wish I had. Make sure you know your rights. @Bessawhat
@Bessawhat We need to encourage her file a civil rights lawsuit when this is over. Not only was she arrested because of her race, but their computer system mysteriously shuts down when the police arrest massive numbers of brown skinned people...@ACLU
@ChipHarbour @Bessawhat @JoshuaPotash Yes she’s black. She’s my sister too—we have a multi racial family—but if I had been the one watching, police would have ignored me. Pretty disgusting isn’t it?
Even if we were able to pay, she wouldn’t get out for another 10-12 hours because they’re overbooked and still booking protestors from last night. #omahaprotests
My sister who’s a flight attendant and was in Omaha for the night was arrested last night for going outside her hotel to see the protests. Police arrested 75-80 people over night who were within the protest area. When we attempt to pay her bail, “The system is down”
A few minutes ago, during a huge thunderstorm, with my dog barking constantly because he felt neglected, we ended this years #VGSSR20. I learned SO MUCH! My teaching will be profoundly impacted and I made connections with some amazing people! @Mink_ED@NHCEducation THANK YOU!
Excellent presentation today by @tjoosten today. I learned a ton from both the zoom meeting and the materials provided ahead of time. THANK YOU! #VGSSR20
First day of #VGSSR20@NatlHumanities@NHCEducation is in the books. Great sessions led by Jane Newman and Jennifer Brammer Elliott. Two best take-aways for me: we need to make the best of the present & not romanticize pre-COVID academia; create experiences, not just lectures.
Hey #VGSSR20 What do you think of ditching the LMS in favor of a social media platform? I took a class from my mentor @sophist_monster that heavily used tumblr. I had never used Slack until this week. I see LMS as limiting and only marginally helpful. Is social media better?
@NinaBug94 I require my students to hand in a hard copy as well. I love the ecological ramifications of paperless teaching but grading online is much more time consuming. As a working mom, I can get more done if I bring a stack of papers with me wherever I go. #VGSSR20
@ecobooklover I have taught using Moodle, Blackboard and D2L. I didn't like Moodle at the time but I appreciate it more now that I have to use Blackboard! My university, SLU, was supposed to transfer to Canvas this year but the switch has been delayed. #cannotwait#VGSSR20
This week, I am a summer grad student resident with @NatlHumanities.Our focus is teaching online. The Day 1 question is: how do LMS shape instruction? My answer: if the LMS is Blackboard, "shaping" means eliminating all that could be good about an LMS. #VGSSR20#AcademicTwitter
