I believe my first N10 million was harder to make than my first N100 million.
That sounds ridiculous at first. How can N100 million possibly be easier to make than N10 million?
What I mean is that I had to become a completely different person financially before I could realistically think about making N100 million.
When I was trying to make my first N10 million, I was mostly exchanging my time, skills and labour for money.
Let me painfully calculate it for you
If I earned N500,000 every month and somehow saved all of it, I would need N10m/N500k = 20 months to reach N10 million.
That’s almost two years of working without spending a single naira.
If I earned N1 million monthly but could only save N300,000, I would need N10m divided by N300k = 33 months.
Almost three years.
That’s the problem with trying to build wealth entirely from income. There is a ceiling because I only have so much time and energy.
But once I started accumulating capital, skills, relationships, reputation and systems, the equation began to change.
Imagine I have N10 million and deploy it into a business or investment that produces an average 30% return. That’s N3 million.
My N10 million becomes N13 million.
If I somehow achieve another 30% return, N13 million produces N3.9 million, taking me to N16.9 million.
Then 30% of N16.9 million is N5.07 million, taking me to N21.97 million.
The point isn’t that I can magically make 30% every year. I can’t guarantee that, and neither can anyone else.
The point is that percentage returns become meaningful when the capital base becomes large.
30% of N100,000 is N30,000.
30% of N10 million is N3 million.
30% of N50 million is N15 million.
The same percentage produces completely different outcomes because the base is bigger.
That’s when I understood something important about wealth.
I don’t want to spend my entire life trying to increase my income by working more hours.
I want to build things that can produce value without requiring every hour of my personal time.
That could be a business, software, intellectual property, investments, a distribution network, a team or a system.
That’s leverage.
If I build a business where I personally have to do everything, my income will eventually hit a ceiling.
But if I build a system where employees, technology, capital, processes and distribution can multiply what I personally do, the ceiling moves.
That’s why I don’t see my first N10 million as just N10 million.
It represents the point where I begin to have enough capital and experience to make better financial decisions.
The first N10 million taught me how to make money.
It also taught me how to manage money, reinvest money, take calculated risks, survive losses and recognize opportunities.
Those lessons are worth more than the money itself because they compound.
So when I say my first N10 million was harder than my first N100 million, I’m not saying N100 million is easy.
I’m saying the game changes.
At N0, I have to create everything from scratch.
At N10 million, I have capital.
At N50 million, I have more options.
At N100 million, if I’ve built the right systems, I have leverage.
And leverage is what makes wealth accelerate.
My first N10 million was about proving that I could build wealth.
My next N90 million is about proving that I can scale it my brother that’s the difference.
I don’t want to spend my entire life working harder for money.
I want to eventually build enough leverage that money, people, systems like Tinubu’s government and assets can work alongside me.
TBT
When I started my O & G posting, the Senior Reg I was working with asked if I had done anything asides closing up a patient before and I said no.
She said not even to repair the uterus(womb), I said no.
Why was that?
The golden rule- Do to others what you want them to do to you- when reversed would be, what you don't want others to do to you, don't do to others is one guiding principle I hold dearly.
Before I started residency, was a Medical officer for 2 years in a private facility & yes I had the opportunity of learning how to do a CS but I didn't quite pay attention to it asides closing up the skin.
Why?
I thought if I had a relative that needed a CS, I wouldn't want such a person to be operated by a Medical officer.
Would want a Consultant or a Resident who'd have been taught comprehensively & would know what to do if he or she runs into trouble.
Given this ignorant inclination of mine, didn't want to provide a service I know I wouldn't appreciate if provided by another person.
Even though my intentions were pure and genuine, I was sincerely wrong.
In Nigeria, a Medical officer is licensed to provide primary care surgeries like ceaserean section, herniorrhaphy, lipoma excision and a few others.
More often that not, they would have worked earlier on with Consultants who'd have integrated them practically & they usually would have been grounded.
Regardless, the lesson resonates.
Do to others what you want them to do to you.
Don't do to others what you don't want them to do to you.
@DrJoeAbah I have a somewhat related question to ask sir.
Based on quite some people’s takes I’ve seen on the TL about how areas of a woman’s life shouldn’t be improved and all of that by their husbands or to help her become a better version of herself.
Yet these same people
@DrJoeAbah be mutual. That's why it's a family. Their family . A husband, a wife and kids. I also think any growth that takes place in the life of the wife is a bonus point for the family in general.
Provided she plays her part well and does all that was listed above.
@DrJoeAbah They claim and state all what a woman should do for their family, even the areas of responsibilities that fall within the man’s jurisdiction, and still claim that no effort should be made from the man’s part to improve, encourage, support the woman in areas deemed fit.
It should
@DrJoeAbah still say and lay claims on how the same woman is to uphold the family, support the man through thick and thin, hold the home, cover his shame, be there and all of that.
Isn't this making it a case of a double standard or hypocrisy?
@Egokuwait Omo mehn, it's crazy.
No one should remain in an abusive relationship. If you can't even speak out due to your fear of perception, just leave. Leave. Even silently. Just leave.
No one should be in an abusive relationship for any reason.
