A scientist whose legacy continues to inspire. 🇯🇲
Dr. Thomas P. Lecky was one of Jamaica's greatest scientists. Born in Swift River, Portland, his pioneering work in animal breeding led to the development of the Jamaica Hope cattle breed and other locally adapted breeds, transforming dairy farming in Jamaica and other tropical countries.
I regard Dr. Lecky as one of Jamaica's greatest scientists, and his work continues to inspire me as a conservation biologist.

@mcewan_janiel Great thread. However we should note Jamaica and most English speaking Carib. Countries have been UMI for over a decade and have often challenged the classification as it disqualifies us from some low interest loans & certain types of aid despite our vulnerability.

Those like Messrs Oneil Madden and Damario Patterson, who, in Tuesday’s edition of this newspaper moved the motion that fathers deserve to be celebrated...ignore the obvious — that celebrating men is not an ‘other people’ job, and not a woman’s job; rather, it must begin with men.

We are carrying out a study to document whether these bugs are found in Jamaica. Some local names include “kissing bugs” or “mother grudgeful.”

There is also another bug commonly found on plants that can look similar, so we are asking the public to share observations and photos to help with identification.
