Vicki Blackburn is one of the strongest Queenslanders I know.

Her daughter Shandee was murdered in Mackay in 2013.

Serious failings at Queensland’s forensics lab means her murderer has never been brought to justice.

We promised Vicki we’d take action - and that’s what we’re doing.

This week, an expert report we commissioned delivered its damning findings.

It found that victims in Queensland are waiting 412 days for DNA tests to be done for major crimes - in other states they’re waiting 5 to 10 days.

It found that victims are waiting over a year for rape kits to be tested – they should be tested within 2 to 8 weeks, and ideally within 5 days.

And it found that the former government left criminals on our streets, putting victims in danger.

Justice delayed, is justice denied. That’s why we’re committed to delivering change.

We’re delivering it for Vicki Blackburn.

And, we’re delivering for the victims across the State that have been denied justice because of these failings.
