今でこそ「平成レトロブーム」なんて言われてるけど、

少し前までは、
遊戯王やポケモンを集めてるって言うと
「まだそんなの集めてるの？」って失笑されることも多かった。

でも、あの頃の自分にとっては
ただのカードやゲームじゃなかった。

小学校の帰り道、ランドセルを放り投げて友達の家や公園に集まって、
スリーブも付けずにデュエルしていたあの時間。
わざわざ自転車で遠くのサンクスやジャスコ、ハローマックまでいって、
運良くパックからレアカードを引けた日だけ、やけにヒーローになれたあの空気。

遊戯王なら、禁止カードなんて関係なくて、
ガンガン攻撃力1,900のブラッドヴォルスやジェミュナイエルフで攻めたり、
ブルーアイズやデーモンなど高レベルモンスターを召喚できたものの、聖バリやマジックシリンダーで一掃される瞬間の、駆け引きの高揚感は今でも忘れられない。

ポケモンは、通信ケーブルを持ってるやつが神で、
ケーブル1本でみんなが集まって順番待ちしてた。
ミュウの裏技とか、“コイキングバグ”の噂とか、
本当かどうかも分からない情報を信じてワクワクしてたあの頃。

ルビサファで白い岩に1,000回話しかけるとジラーチが出ると言って1,000回話しかけても出現しなかったあの喪失感…

カードもソフトも、今みたいに「資産」とか「価値」とかじゃなくて、
ただ純粋に“好き”で、“かっこいい”で集めてた。

それでも大人になるにつれて、
「いい歳して何やってるの？」って空気は確かにあって、
少しだけ肩身の狭い思いをしながら、それでも手放さなかった。

周りの声は気にせず、
“あの頃の自分のワクワク”を信じて集め続けてきた。

だから今、こうして「懐かしい」とか「エモい」って言葉で
あの時代が評価されているのを見ると、
少しだけ報われた気がするし、嬉しい気持ちになります。

職場でも昔の遊戯王とポケモンとか集めてるよと言うと、興味を持ってくれる人が増えました。時代の変化ですね…

あの頃の自分が集めていたものは、
ただのカードやゲームじゃなくて、

間違いなく、“あの時代の思い出そのもの”だった。
