The Supreme Court, in a landmark ruling, proposes a complete ban on acid sales to private individuals and a mandatory monthly stipend for survivors. Despite its potential to combat #acidattack, this ruling remains a paper promise until paired with effective implementation.
The launch & approval of the #Gender Fair Language Framework 2026 marks an important step toward a more inclusive & gender-sensitive judiciary in Pakistan. While gender-neutral language matters, reform must also ensure the visibility & recognition of women across justice systems.

Kudos to the Punjab Assembly for passing the Child Marriage Restraint Act setting 18 as legal age for marriage & making child marriage a non-bailable offence. The real challenge will be implementation as courts continue to uphold child marriages where the girl has reached puberty
The Punjab Assembly has passed the Child Marriage Restraint Bill 2026, setting 18 years as the minimum legal age of marriage for both boys and girls and declaring underage marriage a non-bailable offence with strict punishments for all those involved, including parents, guardians and nikah registrars. The law prescribes imprisonment and heavy fines for facilitating or contracting child marriages and treats related violations as serious criminal offences under a fast-tracked legal process. With this legislation, Punjab joins Sindh, Balochistan and Islamabad in enforcing 18 as the minimum marriage age, leaving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the only province without a similar child marriage restraint law.

Punjab CM @MaryamNSharif has approved a cyber crime unit to tackle online harassment of women & children amid rising abuse across Punjab. With 40% of women in Pakistan facing online harassment, complaint access is vital, but this must be followed by strong action from authorities
Pakistan launches its first National Strategy on TFGBV by the @mohrpakistan & @UNDP. In 2025, 135,000 cybercrime complaints but only 0.6% prosecuted, the gap is clear. Strong enforcement, accountability & real protection for women is required online.

The #SupremeCourt is examining the evidentiary status of women’s testimony in courts, consulting female judges and women legal experts. With only 18% female judges in Pakistan, a clear ruling under constitutional and Islamic law is crucial to ensure women’s voices are valued.
On #InternationalWomensDay, 60+ women were detained in Islamabad while peacefully protesting for their rights. In a country with 32,000+ reported cases of GBV yearly and nearly no convictions, silencing women is unacceptable violation of the Constitution & CEDAW
@auratmarch.
What began as a peaceful protest to mark #InternationalWomensDay in the capital city, ended up in a crackdown, resulting in the arrests and detention of over 65 women. Later the same day three journalists among those arrested, were released. According to information there are expected to be cases filed against them for violating Section 144. The #Punjabgovernment has finally increased the legal marriage age to 18 for boys and girls and made child marriage a non-bailable offence. With 19 million child brides in Pakistan, strong laws must be matched by enforcement to safeguard children.
FOSPAH’s landmark ruling strikes down “No Bachelors/Singles” housing bans in a major win for women’s mobility and economic independence. With women owning only ~2% of housing in Pakistan, this verdict can directly expand women’s access to work, safety, and urban livelihoods.
FOSPAH declares “No Bachelors/Singles” housing bans illegal & unconstitutional. Denying residence by marital status or gender violates equality, dignity & freedom of residence.
This verdict protects single professionals, especially women, ensuring fair access to housing.
A recent #SupremeCourt judgment clarified that family courts do not have the authority to convert a wife’s divorce petition into khula without her explicit consent. While this legal safeguard already existed, poor enforcement exposes a systemic failure of courts to implement it.
