The original US position on the creation of the unified Somali State and a congratulatory message on the occasion of Somaliland's independence in 1960.
1. The US President Eisenhower sent an official message to the President of the United Republic of Somalia on a state-to-state level.
2. TheUndersecretary of the US and the US ambassador at the time directly engaged Somalia as one unit.
3. On July 1, 1960, the official day when the United Republic of Somalia was declared, the US recognized its office in Mogadishu as the official embassy for the US.
4. The US congratulated the Council of Ministers of Somaliland on its independence but did not extend any form of recognition. The United Somalia has been the only entity the US recognized in 1960.

The debate is whether the 1991 unilateral secession in the wake of the fall of the military regime can change the regime established for Somalia. Can Israel's recognition of Hargeysa's unilateralism alter the status quo? That is the debate? These are tough questions and require cool-headedness.

يتوجه اليوم فخامة الرئيس حسن شيخ محمود، رئيس جمهورية الصومال الفيدرالية، ورئيس الوزراء حمزة عبدي بري، إلى مدينة لاس أنود. وتستضيف لاس أنود، عاصمة الإدارة الإقليمية الشمالية الشرقية للصومال، وفداً رفيع المستوى برئاسة الرئيس. ومن المتوقع أن تكون هذه الزيارة تاريخية وذات أهمية وطنية بالغة. كما سيحضر الرئيس حسن شيخ محمود حفل تنصيب السيد عبد القادر فرديه، رئيساً للولاية الإقليمية.

تتزايد التكهنات بأن الرئيس حسن شيخ محمود قد يُعلن أخبارًا هامة للشعب الصومالي، بما في ذلك احتمال إنشاء دولة أودال. ويرى كثيرون في هذا التطور انتكاسة كبيرة للحركة الانفصالية المتمركزة في هرجيسا، والتي تدّعي سيادتها على جزء فقط من الصومال. والجدير بالذكر أن أهالي أودال رفضوا علنًا أي اعتراف أجنبي بالكيانات الانفصالية. وقد أعرب شباب أودال ومعلموها وطلابها وقادة مجتمعها عن دعمهم القوي للحكومة الفيدرالية الصومالية، مؤكدين التزامهم بالوحدة الوطنية ومعارضتهم للأجندات الانفصالية.

وفي سياق متصل، ألغت الحكومة الصومالية مؤخراً جميع الاتفاقيات مع الإمارات العربية المتحدة، إثر مزاعم بدعم الإمارات لجهود تهدف إلى زعزعة استقرار الصومال. ووصفت الحكومة الفيدرالية هذه الإجراءات بأنها انتهاكات للسيادة الوطنية، ما دفع مجلس الوزراء إلى إلغاء الاتفاقيات ووقف تشغيل الطائرات العسكرية الإماراتية داخل الأراضي الصومالية.

تستضيف مدينة لاسعانود، عاصمة ولاية شمال شرق جمهورية الصومال الفيدرالية، اليوم حدثًا وطنيًا بارزًا يتمثل في استقبال كبار قادة الدولة الصومالية، يتقدمهم رئيس جمهورية الصومال الفيدرالية، فخامة السيد حسن شيخ محمود، ورئيس الوزراء السيد حمزة عبدي بري، إلى جانب رؤساء الولايات الأعضاء في الدولة الفيدرالية.

وكان عدد من وزراء الحكومة الفيدرالية قد وصلوا إلى المدينة في وقت سابق، حيث يشارك الجميع في مراسم تنصيب رئيس ولاية شمال شرق الصومال، السيد عبدالقادر أحمد علي، ونائبه السيد عبدالرشيد يوسف جبريل، في احتفال رسمي يعكس مرحلة سياسية جديدة في تاريخ الولاية.

وتُعد هذه الزيارة الأولى من نوعها لرئيس صومالي إلى مدينة لاسعانود في مهمة رسمية منذ عام 1986، حين زارها آنذاك الرئيس الراحل محمد سياد بري، ما يضفي على الحدث أهمية تاريخية وسياسية خاصة.

وتأتي استضافة لاسعانود لهذا التجمع الرفيع المستوى في توقيت إقليمي حساس، تشهد فيه منطقة القرن الإفريقي تطورات متسارعة وتحديات متشابكة، في ظل تحولات استراتيجية تشهدها منطقة باب المندب والبحر الأحمر وخليج عدن، الأمر الذي يمنح هذا الحدث أبعادًا تتجاوز الإطار المحلي إلى السياقين الإقليمي والدولي.
