Beloved manga artist has passed away today 😔

Yoko Umezu, the manga artist who illustrated Vermeil in Gold: The Failing Student and the Strongest Scourge Plunge Into the World of Magic, passed away. Her death was announced today by the Monthly Shonen Gangan editorial department. Her funeral was held privately with family and close relatives.

Written by Kouta Amana and illustrated by Umezu, Vermeil in Gold began serialization in Monthly Shonen Gangan and eventually received a TV anime adaptation in 2022.

Following Umezu’s passing, the editorial department confirmed that the manga will end with the chapter published in the magazine’s July 2026 issue, released on June 12. Details regarding the release of currently uncollected chapters will be announced at a later date.

Rest in peace, Yoko Umezu. The characters and world she brought to life through her art will remain with Vermeil in Gold fans forever. 🕊️
