⚖️ FORMER CROWN COURT JUDGE AVOIDED PRISON AFTER ADMITTING 13 CHILD ABUSE IMAGE OFFENCES
David Selwood, a former Crown Court judge in Portsmouth, avoided prison after pleading guilty to 13 offences involving indecent images of children.
The Winchester man admitted 12 counts of making and one count of possessing indecent photographs of a child after police discovered 75 images involving boys aged eight to 14 on his laptop. He had downloaded the material over a six-week period.
His punishment? A 12-month community rehabilitation order - no immediate prison sentence.
During his time on the bench, Selwood had sentenced child abuse image offenders himself, including Professor Christopher Bagley, who received a conditional discharge for downloading indecent images of children.
A judge who dealt with offenders in court ended up standing in the dock himself.

⚖️ BIRMINGHAM MAGISTRATE JAILED AFTER TODDLER DIED FROM UNTREATED BURNS
Rashpal Chana, a Birmingham magistrate and Queen’s Award recipient, was jailed for four-and-a-half years in 2011 for the manslaughter of two-year-old Kristiana Logina.
The little girl suffered burns covering 10% of her body, yet medical help was not sought for 10–14 days. Instead, creams and bandages were applied as her damaged skin deteriorated.
When Kristiana finally reached Birmingham Children’s Hospital, she died from septic shock. The court heard that prompt medical treatment would have saved her life.
Chana, who had taken Kristiana into his Harborne home, was convicted alongside her mother, Eva Logina. She received six years in prison and was also convicted of child cruelty.
Mrs Justice Dobbs said Chana had a duty to protect the toddler, although he was not believed to have been present when she was scalded.
A man entrusted with administering justice failed to ensure a desperately injured child received urgent medical care. The consequences were fatal.
