@pcliff18 My group's reading (Group 4) also made me come to this same conclusion. It was interesting to see how we spoke about earlier in the course, communication is used to bring people together across distances. However, I have noticed that despite this, social media ... #comm106
@VtranCommClass I tend to always go back to Peters' argument from the very beginning of the course of communication as intractable and the idea that we can never fully understand each other. But I would have to my favorite mini unit was the one about the influence of movies #comm106
I love how we continue to build off of ideas from the beginning of the semester. It's interesting to see how the idea of communication as faulty, despite space or time, continues to come up with various texts. Love being able to draw these connections! #comm106
@cw8880@SammyJo38054903 I thought I was the only one who experienced this kind of shock! I often find myself creating this image of a person in my mind without knowing them. There is definitely a connection between what we hear and the images that our brain produces to accompany these thoughts #comm106
@gloribeldifo I agree! Personally, I did not feel as though he was having a 1-1 conversation with me, but this may to due to his style of speech being carried throughout time. I guess I'm used to hearing this style, but overall this method of communication is effective #comm106
@VtranCommClass When you really think about it Vinny, it's true that no one REALLY likes TV. It's a great way to pass time and distract your mind and sites just provide me with this outlet. I'm with you for #LessCommercials#COMM106
"These shows suggest that nothing could be worse than seeming different." I find it interesting how there is a reoccurrence of the realization of difference in both film and TV shows. However, I feel like TV now has become more accepting of differences & relationships #COMM106
Like @elijah_morris suggested I would love to see how Mulvey would critique films with female protagonists or cinema with a female-dominated cast. Is there a difference when the film is directed by a man? Will the objectification be done more by men or women? #COMM106
@VtranCommClass I appreciate pieces such as those written by Berger and Mulvey because they continue to bring to light the way our society works. Through reading these different pieces I'm able to see how my own thoughts and perceptions are based on what I see in the media. #mindblowing#COMM106
It was interesting that Schudson referred to the media as "the visible tip of the iceberg of social influences on human behavior." Is he suggesting that media hints towards there being a larger problem in respects to social influences on human behavior? #COMM106
@Pohl_Geneva I think there is barely any news that is unbiased nowadays. I think that journalists input aspects of their own feelings/beliefs into the news that they present, for example in the way that one may depict the occurrence of an event, whether they notice it or not. #COMM106
@junpei_taguchi Same! It's interesting to see how this thought of fake news didn't seem to be a problem then. People seemed to trust their sources enough to just relay the information. Now you always have to question whether or not the information that you're receiving is even credible #COMM106
Am I the only one who found it weird yet interesting that within the Public Sphere you don't know why you're seeing what you're seeing. It's fascinating to think about all the filters that regulate what is brought to our attention & how much these sites "know" about us #COMM106
It may not be the case that itβs overlooked, but itβs not a popular shared opinion. Or also the fact that these news outlets decide whatβs important to a selected audience and readily promote that information. #COMM106
I feel like itβs all making sense. Social media plays a huge role in developing the modern public sphere, however, it seems as though many things are discussed through social media and go overlooked. #COMM106
@minhtopotato I had a similar thought in reference to Snapchat. SC in a way is a reflection of some forms of orality. People can send images or messages, however, like you said, once the snap expires it is gone forever, but if you screenshot it you now have a record of the moment #COMM106
Peters concludes his piece by suggesting that broadcasting is a more natural and effective form of communication. I agree because it feels forced to say that there is only one interpretation of something. It's more natural to let people come to their own conclusions. #COMM106
I continue to find it interesting that many believe that technology strips people of their individuality, however McLuhan argues that individuality has come across because of technology (ie. writing, internet, etc) #COMM106
Reading Berger's piece made me realize that women continue to be objectified in art, I believe now more than ever. I never realized this "look" done by models but now I see it everywhere! #COMM106
