@NaomiPenaNYC And equally disturbing is public school systems knowing that students are struggling while cutting funding to schools instead of giving them the additional support they need.
Last year, we all watched in horror as this administration did nothing to prevent 150K students & staff @NYCSchools from getting sick in 3 weeks. It seems the only lesson learned was figuring out how to turn off the reporting system so we have no idea how many get sick this time.
Dispatch from a Manhattan Elementary School:
8 kids in class of 22 get covid.
No note goes home to families because NYC DOE close contact letters have ended (1 covid test was sent). 2 parents run into each other at drugstore & start to put together how bad the situation is. 1/
@Mssarahmssarah Bless you for doing God’s work. I appreciate you and the all teachers who care about the wellbeing of our children as well as their education. It’s hard and emotionally exhausting. I wanted to say THANK YOU!!!
I’m sorry Daniel. Please get well soon. And there were 1,041 students and staff out yesterday and 56,944 out since the 1st day of school. Data provided by: Soon to be cancelled during a Tridemic @NYCSchools Situation Room.
My partner and I tested positive for COVID-19, today. I know other colleagues are under the weather and out. And lots of students out, yesterday. So why on earth is DOE closing the SITUATION ROOM?
This is such a violation of basic human rights. First homelessness & now criminalizing mental illness. Completely unacceptable & any CM that doesn’t fight to protect the rights of New Yorkers, especially our most vulnerable & marginalized, should be voted out of office ASAP.
“We have deep concerns about Mayor Eric Adams’s involuntary commitment policy, which ignores well-established norms about effective mental health care and represents a clear violation of people’s basic freedoms." (1/6) 🧵
