I had the honor of speaking with Al Jazeera about Palestinian youth mental health. Ultimately, it doesn't take a Ph.D. in psychology to know that we can't actually promoting healing until we stop the bombing.

Our young people are pulling back the curtain on oppressive systems everywhere- from schools to governments. We must stand side by side with our students. May we use their courage to fuel our own. There is an active genocide happening in Gaza right now. Humanity needs us all.
We begin Day 2 of the Columbia Encampment with police (the Strategic Response Group) violently arresting at least 5 of our courageous comrades outside of the campus gates, who had weathered the rain and slept on the streets in solidarity with us through the night.
For decades we have been pushing to be counted. Being counted means better data on community needs, better representation, and better access to resources. It’s a good first step, but I hope to see improvements as it is tested.

Ever hear about the Nakba? Most American students haven't. This critical part of the Palestinian experience is rarely covered in schools, and some groups work to ensure it stays hidden. Learn about the Nakba and how to share with youth at Teach Palestine. https://t.co/9IFcLLqEUy
Palestinian students are struggling- they are watching children that look like them be systematically slaughtered. Many are carrying heavy emotions.

Here is how educators can support.

Students are telling me discussions about Palestine quickly devolve into antiMuslim rhetoric, and misinformation. Our high schoolers are having to become history and legal experts to share their lived experiences. Orientalism in education set the stage for this long ago.
Not counting Arab students in schools means it is difficult to describe the experiences of Arab youth and support them in the school setting. What research we do have is clear- Arab youth experience marginalization in schools and we need to do better.

I'm SUPER excited about our newly published paper! My co-authors and I discuss empiricially-supported interventions for reducing racism and prejudice in schools. We also speak truth to power and make [cautious] policy recommendations. DM me for access info!
