Today, I had the privilege of witnessing the signing of a landmark 25-year Special Mining Lease Agreement between the Government of Zimbabwe and Karo Platinum (part of Tharisa Plc).

This major milestone secures long-term tenure over a 23,903-hectare mining area on our mineral-rich Great Dyke.This project is a direct outcome of the vision we launched in 2018. With over US$240 million already invested in plant establishment, mining fleets, water and power infrastructure, and community development, Phase 1 alone is set to create up to 1,000 jobs for our people.

This fully compliant agreement—signed on behalf of the Government by Mines and Mining Development Minister Eng. Polite Kambamura and Finance Minister Prof. Mthuli Ncube—underscores our commitment to transparency, legal certainty, and investor security.We are unlocking our nation's vast mineral wealth to drive sustainable industrial growth, create decent employment, and uplift communities.

It was my pleasure to welcome the recently retired Chief Justice, Luke Malaba, to State House today.

In recognition of his outstanding service spanning decades, unwavering commitment, and exemplary legal leadership within the Zimbabwean judiciary, I presented him with an agricultural mechanisation package to facilitate his transition into post-retirement life. The package comprises a tractor, a Nissan UD truck, a boom sprayer, and a planter to facilitate his agricultural pursuits.

As he retires from the judiciary, I encourage him to leverage his vast expertise in the agricultural sector. Our land is a vital asset, and productivity must persist at all levels. I applaud the retired Chief Justice for his dedication to the nation and wish him every success in his future agricultural ventures.

On the final day of its fact-finding visits to renewable energy projects, the Thematic Committee on Peace and Security toured the Zimbabwe Power Company's Kariba South Power Station in Kariba. The Committee received a comprehensive briefing on the operations of the hydroelectric power station, which is Zimbabwe's largest power generation facility and a major contributor to the national grid.
The Committee was informed that Kariba South Power Station has an installed generation capacity of 1,050 megawatts (MW) following the successful completion of the 300MW expansion project in 2018. The station generates electricity using water from Lake Kariba and supplies power to the national grid, providing energy to households, industries, mining operations, agricultural activities, and public institutions throughout the country.
Members of the Committee commended the Government and the Zimbabwe Power Company for investing in strategic energy infrastructure that enhances national energy security and drives economic growth. . The visit provided valuable insights into the role of large-scale hydroelectric power generation in supporting Zimbabwe's Vision 2030 and the attainment of energy self-sufficiency.
