Meeting tomorrow with a poet's roundtable (my favorite group of poet friends, no pressure, no judgment). Trying to get my stuff together...what to read...what to read...what to read...
Today's wish: That I could find a writer's critique workshop that's more encouraging. We're addicted to fixing things that might not be broken! I want eyes on my work to get an idea of how I'm doing, but the comments are often discouraging in the end. Boo hoo for me...
Today's joys: (1) iced tea (sweet!) and (2) talking with writing buddy about our writing progress this past week and next week's writing intentions. (Mine is to submit.)
Happy Birthday to meeee! Aging is a privilege, being in my 60s is awesome (with a side of aches and pains๐). Just notified of 4 rejections and 2 acceptances (two poems in small poetry journals, Earth's Daughter and Atlanta Review.) Yay me.
I went to the Austin African American Book Festival (Yay me!) Keynote speakers were Kwame Alexander and Dr Peniel Joseph -- and now I'm kinda in love with them dudes, but I'll settle for reading their books. ๐
Got a rejection yesterday on poems I'd sent to an online poetry journal. Never feels good, but the more rejections I get, I realize it doesn't kill me. I countered it by submitting a short story today to a short story contest.
@EllenJuneWrites Ideally, I think it would be nice. I imagine a cozy room set up like a library and someone to straighten up after me๐. But in reality, real life, I write in a lot of inconsistent places--in bed, at the kitchen table, in the car, at the library...
As a writer and poet, my two favorite places to write are in bed (bed-quarters/headquarters) or at a library. Love those two environments. They inspire me. #writinglife#poetrycommunity
Got to hang out with a large group of local poets yesterday and hear several of them read poetry. Turns out that's my happy place...wherever other poets are is where I wanna be!
This has been a good month for me when it comes to writing. I've been writing like crazy. Doesn't matter that some of it is a bunch of hooey, it only matters that something's on the page!
Missed the first few days of NaPoWrimo, but now I'm on board. Attempting to write a draft of a poem every day for the rest of this month. Seems to be making my brain happy. I'm even dreaming about lines...
