@OskarHansson9 Thanks for your question, Oskar! These ELISAs weren’t sensitive enough for serum analysis, but as far as I know, @ADxNeuro has since transferred the assays to the Simoa platform for detecting beta-synuclein in serum
Excited to share the results of our latest work on Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers! Together with the team at ADx NeuroSciences, we developed two novel CSF assays for β-synuclein, each targeting a different region of the protein. https://t.co/gqBvIxXCDk
Both reliably detect early synaptic degeneration across the Alzheimer’s continuum, and interestingly, the mid-region assay may even help distinguish disease stages.
If you're working on synaptic biomarkers, early AD detection, or assay development, this might be for you.
Two papers in two days for the #KarikariLab. Paper 1 gives guidelines for blood biobanking to support biomarker studies. Paper 2 reports association of plasma biomarkers with baseline cognition & longitudinal change in the population-based MYHAT study. @PittPsychiatry@PittADRC
I am grateful to the co-first author Giovanni Bellomo, Prof. Lucilla Parnetti and Prof. Charlotte Teunissen and all coauthors for making this project possible. A special thanks to @Fujirebio and @MIRIADE10 for their support!
Fully automated measurement of plasma Aβ42/40 and p‐tau181: Analytical robustness and concordance with cerebrospinal fluid profile along the Alzheimer's disease continuum in two independent cohorts - Bellomo - Alzheimer's & Dementia - Wiley Online Library https://t.co/5TMZyWVNzX
Here are the main results:
- The analytical performance of automated plasma determinations of Ab42/40 and p-tau181 was excellent.
- Renal dysfunction was associated with increased levels of p-tau181, p-tau181/Ab42 but not Ab42/40...
- Plasma Ab42/40 accurately reflected CSF A status, regardless of clinical diagnosis and stage of AD. - Plasma p-tau181 accurately reflected A+/T+ (not T) status in patients with MCI-AD and AD-dem but not in preclinical subjects ..
@cclm_degruyter@degruyter_pub@EMA_News Our study not only delves into NfL as an SMA biomarker but also provides normal reference ranges for serum NfL in a cohort of 240 neurologically healthy children.
I am thrilled that our review article on using Neurofilament Light Protein (NfL) as a biomarker for treatment monitoring in #SMA is now published in @cclm_degruyter. Thanks to all coauthors!

@cclm_degruyter@degruyter_pub This marks a milestone and adds to the visibility of our successful application which resulted in the issuance of a letter of support from the @EMA_News for the use of NfL in childhood neurological diseases. https://t.co/Xm5G8D1FBY
The final MIRIADE training week is well underway!
Our students receive training on grants waiting, personal career development and entrepreneur skills among others and are actively engaged with the sessions.
