@clutch_87@moman0330 That’s not what the broadcast said - or several articles I’ve read. Because the VAR challenge is for mistaken identity, specifically, only the card can be swapped - not rescinded.
@sportsrapport Agreed! I made this point as well. Expanding the World Cup will give FIFA more inventory if it wanted to add a second or even third partner.
@Quaker2001 I don’t know. The Olympics is actually now technically split among two different media companies — Versant and NBCU. It doesn’t seem like a problem that couldn’t be solved to me. And it’s far, far less inventory than the an Olympics.
This will help juice the media rights too.
I wonder if FIFA would consider splitting the rights to multiple US media companies with the additional games …. Yet another way to juice the rights.
Gianni Infantino has said FIFA will examine expanding the World Cup by a further 16 nations to a 64-team tournament ahead of its next edition in 2030.
The 2030 tournament will be spread across six nations and three continents: Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay are scheduled to host one match apiece at the start of the competition, with the remaining games split between Morocco, Portugal and Spain.

@clutch_87@moman0330 You’re conflating two things.
1) when a yellow is given, the yellow simply can’t be picked up. It can only be traded. That rule is bonkers.
2) He should have been given a yellow card. The dive = yellow card rule is fine. Rule no. 1 is not.
A severe problem with soccer is the:
1) Goal
2) celebrate
3) wait to see if goal allowed
Dance done on half the goals in the sport. It’s a huge turn off for casual fans.
@MooseyOfficial But you don’t. That’s what I’m saying. Many games in a season don’t have any situation where a team celebrates a touchdown and then it gets reversed on replay. Maybe it happens a few times to a team per season?
@MooseyOfficial It’s not as bad with the NFL because there are so many touchdowns. When you’re only getting two goals a game and so many are overturned or almost overturned, it’s a major issue.
@moman0330 Doesn’t matter, it’s a horrible rule. Doesn’t matter if the call was right or not — not being able to simply nix the yellow but only being able to give a yellow to the other team if the first yellow is wrong is asinine. A horrific rule. Shocked that hasn’t been changed.
